To cancel this order moments before it was ready?

It was a healthy veggie/fruit juice blended on site.
It is a place I often go to, they pre-prepare batches of juice in advance, and my go-to combo is usually ready to just pick up a bottle.
Not today.
A very nice guy who works there told me, oh we're out, let me blend it quickly for you. This was as he put back a tray of dirty dishes he went to collect. He then wiped his hands across back and front of his jeans and proceeded to put fresh veggies in the blender - using his bare hands.
Everything he put in - he took straight from the plastic bags it gets delivered in - carrots had dirt - literal soil on them, he just roughly cut them up and threw them in. As this continued - and it was getting worse and worse I just realised I cannot possibly drink this.
Thoughts that went through my mind were - but I already have. They know me. What do I say now - why am I cancelling the order.
Eventually I just went - sorry gotta go and ran - palmface.

Is this how the healthy juices and smoothies are usually prepared? No gloves, no washing hands, no washing or cleaning the fresh produce? Am I being unreasonable expecting more...

Obviously not. I'd contact customer services and complain. And never buy from that location again. I would probably have said the food hygiene was poor as my reason for leaving though, then and there

I’d have done the same as you OP. That’s rank 🤮

Pippa12 · 08/09/2025 06:41

I wouldn’t be ever purchasing anything from there again so would have no issues in telling the server why I was leaving.

Not washing his hand after removing dirty trays- rank!

I’d have felt the same, but I’d like to think I’d have actually said ‘do you not generally wash the produce then?’ and see what they said. I would have then told them why I didn’t want it so they could at least change their practices.

I think YABU because you should have told him exactly why you were rejecting the drink, asked for your money back and then written to their head office outlining the issue and suggesting they might like to review their training practices.

All you’ve done is kick the can down the road for some other person to find.

Yes, I see why I should have said something, and I agree - but honestly I can't remember last time anyone took any feedback as constructive and not getting offended or even aggressive. Especially if it's younger folk in service industry - I find them super sensitive and just not worth trying to reason with or generally point any thoughts in their direction.
I have witnessed rude come backs, accusing perfectly reasonable people of being entitled, saying they don't appreciate anyone telling them how to do their job...
Honestly - I haven't considered saying I am unhappy with the service - not even for a second..I am done with that - there iz zero impact (other then on my personal wellbeing)😅
I am now at the stage where I am wondering if doing half ass job is the norm and I am being crazy to expect anything different.
