Hi, never been to America before and looking for somewhere with some sunshine late October. If anyone has been during October please can you advise your experience weather wise? Thank you. Google says lovely month to visit, Google also says toward hurricane season!

October is when the summer heat breaks and it's usually really pleasant along the coast unless there's a super active and long hurricane season (which this one doesn't seem to be). I lived on the Gulf Coast side for some years.

I have been a couple of times around the English half term at the end of October and I was quite happy with the temperature. We were still shorts and t-shirts during the day, and used the outdoors pool.

I think we might have needed thin cardigans or similar in the evenings, and I have a feeling it was starting to get dark mid evening - but I could be completely wrong about that. We did watch the fireworks at Disney and it wasn't that late.

Personally, I would prefer to go at that time of the year, weather wise. Lots of Florida is swamp, so you get swampy weather in the summer months - hot, sticky and wet.

Ah first hand advice, perfect, thank you for taking the time to reply.

I’ve been several times and it was roasting! We were very glad of air con. Brilliant time to go - any rain is over quickly, it’s not crazy busy, and it’s a big Halloween party!

We went a few years ago for the second half of October and had good weather. Not too hot but really nice. There were hurricanes which had hit in September and we saw the damage it left behind.

I've been in most months and October is my favourite. Warm enough for all the usual outdoor things, sea swimming, water parks, but without the gruelling heat and downpours of summer.

thank you everyone for your replies, sounds like a good time to go. Can you recommend the hotels you stayed in? Mainly several pools would be useful as we have a girl who loves the pool!

We only stayed in Orlando.

In Disney once - French Quarter - and International Drive a couple of times, but the most recent time was 6 years ago so no idea what the hotels were or whether they are still ok.

I preferred to stay on International Drive, as we did other stuff, not just Disney. There were advantages to staying in Disney, they had their own bus to collect you and they transported your luggage to your room, so it was there waiting for you. But I was told they don't do this anymore. Plus if your whole holiday is going to be Disney based then it makes sense to stay there and save the faff of getting their and back every day.

But we liked to hire a car and explore, we also did a coach trip to NASA and another south towards West Palm Beach, and a boat ride on the everglades. And one day we spent the day hopping on and off the tram that goes along International Drive and visited all different malls and attractions and ate our body weight in crap food.

But Florida is huge, and we only visited a tiny bit of it, never got anywhere near the Keys.
