To ask if you don’t work Monday…

Do you still get the Sunday blues just on another day, or does having Monday as a NWD cure this? I have a midweek day off and currently stuck between the pros and cons of a Monday vs Friday off.

Not really blues on a Monday, more sudden panic that it’s Tuesday the next day! I’ve not worked Mondays for years and it works out very well with bank hols. Not sure why everyone takes a Friday off!

If you had Mondays off would you miss out on bank holidays? I’d have Friday then the bank holidays are extras

I have Tuesdays off.
Fab long BH weekends, especially Easter when theres a Friday in there too

Pricelessadvice · 08/09/2025 14:32

Mondays are a great day to have off rather than Saturday. Everywhere is mad busy on Saturday but shops and stuff are quieter on Mondays.
I don’t mind working Saturdays at all, because I’d not want to go out on Saturdays with everywhere being so hectic. Far prefer Sunday as my ‘housework and visiting family’ day and then Monday is my funday!

I’m self employed so I don’t miss out on bank holiday pay as I wouldn’t get it anyway.

I love Mondays off especially in the summer when we may have gone out for lunch /bbq and drinks and there's no "oh i have to get up early tomorrow" - that said when DS was younger I still had to get up him up to drive him to school

I also get a proportionate amount of Bank Holidays but have to cover any of my work days eg Good Friday with leave but tbh not having to cover Bank Holiday Mondays gives you the most flexibility

confusedlots · 08/09/2025 14:49

Love my Mondays off and no Sunday night blues here on any day of the week. You’re so much more productive having a Monday off instead of a Friday off. I like to get ahead with the laundry, prepare some meals for the week ahead etc. I used to be off on Fridays and I felt like I often wasted the day as my head was thinking it was time to wind down for the weekend.

Catpiece · 08/09/2025 14:50

I’m retired but Sunday still has an “off” feeling about it to be. Must be ingrained.

Topjoe19 · 08/09/2025 14:51

Monday's are often school inset days if you need childcare.

Hallebere · 08/09/2025 14:53

Wednesday is actually the most beneficial day in my opinion. Monday and Friday just merge into the weekend but when you have a Wednesday off, you never go more than 2 days without having a day off. Also, you can book the Tuesday off after s bank holiday and have 5 days off for one days holiday. I've done all combinations and Wednesday is the sweet spot.

MferMonsterSearchingForRedemption · 08/09/2025 14:59

I never get the Monday blues.

I thought I would, but the Sunday blues went and did not transfer to Mondays!

Magnificentkitteh · 08/09/2025 15:01

I love having Mondays off. You stagger the return because you are back in school routine but still have time to yourself to look forward to. I also have a short day on Tuesday WFH to ease me into the working week! I don't get Monday blues but then I quite like my job.

Bbq1 · 08/09/2025 15:02

I only work 2 days (Thursday and Friday) since being seriously ill and off work for almost 2 years. I returned to work in April. I absolutely love my time off and by the time I go to work I
enjoy it. It's one day then the next day I'm finishing again for 5 days. I've never really got Sunday blues with my job, definitely don't get Wednesday night blues either. Thursday and Friday are great days to work as everyone is more chilled and any big issues seem to happen at the beginning of the working week.

Magnificentkitteh · 08/09/2025 15:03

Loved Wednesdays off too for reasons above (no hump day). Fridays off is the worst but good for balancing random early finish days and class assembly etc

indoorplantqueen · 08/09/2025 15:03

I don’t work Mondays. Never get Monday night blues . Easy start to the week, long walk with dog and my friend, a coffee, few bits of housework and batch cook meals for the week.

Bbq1 · 08/09/2025 15:04

Plus, Mondays are quieter as I think more people request Fridays off.

wiminny · 08/09/2025 15:11

When I did a three day week after cutting my hours close to retirement, I worked Monday Wednesday and Thursday. Every so often got a mega long bank holiday weekend.

I got all the Monday stuff out of the way and then was off on Tuesday to recover. It worked great for me.

Arthurnewyorkcity · 08/09/2025 15:12

I used to have Thursdays off work and loved it. Felt like I only had to get through to weds and then Fridays flew by. Now I have Mondays and hate it in comparison, 4 days in a row is drag. I didn't get a choice as doing a pro qualification but once I qualify I'll be requesting Tues or Thurs off

EllaPaella · 08/09/2025 15:18

I work my full-time hours over Tuesday -Friday and absolutely love having Monday off. Sunday is so nice now that I don’t have to get up for work in the morning!
Having a day to myself allows me to organise myself so much better and I actually look forward to going back into work on a Tuesday as 3 days off feels like a proper rest.

unsurewhattodoaboutit · 08/09/2025 15:21

I never get work blues. So despite being off on Mondays it doesn’t make a difference. My work is flexible so I don’t really have to worry about BH

LlynTegid · 08/09/2025 15:24

I don't. More to do or to watch on TV etc on a Monday evening I am sure helps.

Cocktailsandcheese · 08/09/2025 15:37

I used to have Mondays off and had to switch to Fridays off instead. I much preferred the Mondays off! I didn't get the blues at all, and it was so nice to fully enjoy the weekend rather than having the dread feeling all Sunday! In theory it shouldn't be any different but for some reason I felt like Mondays off was much nicer, and I never minded working on a Friday as everyone was excited for the weekend and there was a more chilled vibe in the office.

Adelle79360 · 08/09/2025 15:56

I used to have Mondays off (have worked them for the last 2 years now though) and it just moves the blues over a night really lol. I work on Fridays and really like Fridays at work because it’s calm and feels like you’re winding down for the weekend. If I were you OP I’d go for the Mondays off. The time added to your annual leave for the bank holidays makes it worth it too.

Coconutter24 · 08/09/2025 16:44

I have Mondays off. Work tues-fri and love that extra day at the weekend. Gives me time to reset the house extra and food shop (or do something fun if I choose) whilst the kids are at school and DH at work. Never get Monday night blues and when bank hols come around if I want a longer weekend I just book the Friday off
