Family days out

What do you do on the weekend as a family day out. We live in London and have a seven year old. Preface this by saying that we don't often have family days out because DC has clubs on sunday so we only have one free day a weekend and we often see family or DC sees friends.

On rare occasions we have a spare day we go to museums or a large park. I love a day out, Dh a lot less. He doesnt see the point. Would lovr to know what others tend to do do especially if they live in London and only have one child.

we have a seven year old too. She enjoys as a day out:

  • going to a “farm park” type place. Tractor rides, some animals, possibly a soft play
  • science museum. Anything that lets you touch a lot of stuff.
  • short walk in the countryside (2 miles or so for a 7 year old), followed by a pub lunch.
  • visit a nearby village/town, give them a camera and a fiver to spend in the local shops.
  • theme park (Paultons park is great for a 7 year old)

depending on what side of London your on - a day trip down to Brighton is always fun. Or an overnight stay in Margate.

Days out are my favourite days with the kids. That might be because we have a 2 year old as well - and playing inside with a 2 year old gets old fast 😂

Of all the places to do things, central London is the best one with a young child!
Museum, exhibition, monuments, attraction places: get a Merlin Pass, memberships.
Swimming, kids love slides, and outings with a friend or 2: soft play (shame Kidzania has shut down), laser tag,
My kids like Greemwich a lot when the weather is nice, there's loads to do

My kids never spend a day at home unless one of us is ill, sometimes it's a real "family day out" because we all happen to go, sometimes, we take some of their friends.

London is amazing with a kid. There are so many museums (national history museum, science museum and the transport museum are some of our favourites!), the aquarium, the London eye, shrek adventure, Kew gardens. We all love being out and about though so it’s easy for us. When the autumn is here love going for a walk in the crisp cold air.

Are you sure you aren’t projecting your love of a day out onto your child? When things are that busy, mine love the opportunity to have a day off where they don’t have to do anything.

I don't live in London, and I don't have an 'only child', but most 'days out' over the years tend to be me and either all the dc or some combination of them, as we enjoy that and dh doesn't.
On other occasions, he might take them camping or do an activity with them (singly or together or some combination), doing something they enjoy doing together that I don't.
It makes sense to us to not try and make anyone do things they don't enjoy on a regular basis.

We live in London and went to Margate yesterday usually we don't do much on the weekends though maybe just the park as mine are always tired from school (not only child though)

Mine climb the walls if they are stuck at home for a day, so do I!

Spending a day in a museum or just listening to a few performers in Covent Garden is pretty much "doing nothing", just nice relaxing walk around.

We used to do lots of the smaller museums eg Army Museum, parks such as Holland Park or Golders Hill Park, Thames Barrier, DLR trip and Museum of Docklands.

My kids needed to go out every day but it didn't need to be the whole day. Might be a whole day trip to Roald Dahl Museum or just take the bikes out for a ride around Finsbury Park.
