To worry about this air b and b request?

Aggy1i · 07/09/2025 07:03

Air b and b host met on arrival and asked for our names in full and address to put in a form. Never been asked this before but they said it was their policy. Is this common? I have anxiety and not sure if I’m blowing this out of proportion

OP posts:

Wouldn't bother me unless I was planning to trash the joint. Sounds like owners have been burned before.

PollyBell · 07/09/2025 07:09

I wont use air b and b but not because of this when I book on hotel websites they ask for my name and address and when I check in car details etc.

Perfectly normal I just hate the idea of air b &as overall regardless

Elektra1 · 07/09/2025 07:10

Had to provide full names and passport numbers of all occupants of an air bnb before arrival this summer. In Spain. Think it’s a legal requirement in some places

TheDogsMother · 07/09/2025 07:11

Airbnb themselves already have all the guest ID. Seems it is the hosts policy, not Airbnb, perhaps because he has had a bad guest experience before. As PP said, if you aren’t planning to trash the place it isn’t a major deal to provide your address. You have to do this at many hotels.

CopperWhite · 07/09/2025 07:11

It seems normal for them to want to know the names and addresses of people who will be staying in their property, but doesnt Airbnb tell them?

Either way, I can’t see why you’d have to worry about it.

Saucery · 07/09/2025 07:14

I’ve sometimes had this with Air B n B. I assume because I am verified with the company other Hosts don’t ask. I’ve always been asked for name of all guests and my address when booking direct with owners outside of Air B n B. It’s nothing to worry about, fair enough they want to know who is staying in their property.

KellyJonesLeatherTrousers · 07/09/2025 07:15

What are you worried about?

KellyJonesLeatherTrousers · 07/09/2025 07:16

What are you worried about?

Whyherewego · 07/09/2025 07:18

I'd be ok to provide it as long as they told me what their data protection policy was.

AtlasPine · 07/09/2025 07:18

Perhaps the OP is worried about robbery from her home while she’s away? I’m sure it’s ok though and agree with others that the host has possibly been stung by bad guests before and wants direct redress.

Letsgoroundagainnow · 07/09/2025 07:20

What do you think might happen with the info?

JustGoClickLikeALightSwitch · 07/09/2025 07:21

It’s a requirement in some countries as PP said.

BusMumsHoliday · 07/09/2025 07:21

In lots of European countries, it's a legal requirement for people running guest accommodation (ie a holiday home) for people to take guests details including passport numbers. It's like giving your info when you check into a hotel.

I can also imagine UK hosts doing this because there has been reports of people cloning/hacking Airbnb profiles and then leaving properties in a poor state.

Zanatdy · 07/09/2025 07:22

Seems like a perfectly normal request to me

TheSummerof25 · 07/09/2025 07:22

Some hosts ask because Airbnb are notoriously bad at supporting hosts when things go wrong. They also don’t always implement their own policies re third party bookings etc which can leave hosts vulnerable (county lines etc).

Butchyrestingface · 07/09/2025 07:23

What is your concern about them knowing your address and <gasp> name? Can you elaborate a bit?

I've had to provide both when booking into hotels and it's never occurred to me the hotel might send someone round to empty the place when I'm not there.

JustGoClickLikeALightSwitch · 07/09/2025 07:26

Here you go, with Spain as an example.

To worry about this air b and b request?
Billybagpuss · 07/09/2025 07:28

Where are you? It’s a legal requirement in Croatia too.

Agoddessonamountaintop · 07/09/2025 07:32

It’s not an Air requirement, but by law now in the UK owners are supposed to keep a register of all guests; full name and nationality, snd if not British, the next place they’re intending to travel to. Not sure if passport numbers are required. The rules are in the Pink Book for holiday let owners.
Addresses aren’t required, but some owners feel they have reason to ask for them.

Ratafia · 07/09/2025 07:39

You must have given your address to all sorts of people for all sorts of purposes. Why does this particularly worry you?

ScrambledEggs12 · 07/09/2025 07:40

For an apartment in France we had to send photos of each of us holding our passports!

JustMyView13 · 07/09/2025 07:42

If they can’t explain to you why they require that information, then they shouldn’t be collecting it. You have rights under GDPR.

beachsandseaicecream · 07/09/2025 07:42

We’ve had to do this, in Europe but most recently in Canada.
