AIBU to go to Blackpool

AIBU to take my two-year-old boy to Blackpool Sandcastle tomorrow? It’s a six hour round trip. Would be doing so on my own as his dad’s working.
At a loose end. A long way, but looks fun?

I’m in Northumberland. Prudhoe doesn’t have slides for little ones but has waves and fountains. My kids love it there. There is also a park outside and I think they’ve redone the soft play. Not as exciting as Blackpool but a 2 year old will love it exactly the same.
Have you been to Ponteland pool? That’s great for toddlers (as is the soft play)

@RoaRiRiNo, we haven’t been to the Ponteland one yet. We will def have to try, and Prudhoe as well. Thanks for the recommendations. They both sound good!

Thanks everyone for the advice, opinions and suggestions! We went to Alpamare in Scarborough in the end - a much more manageable two hour trip (four hour both ways), thanks to one poster’s suggestion. It was excellent. Glad we didn’t go to Blackpool. We’ll save that for an overnight stay. Alpamare great for toddlers, just for the record. Fountains, smaller slides and wave pool. We had a packed lunch on the beach afterwards. Probs best to avoid that in future as seagulls pretty aggressive. All in all a great day out. Would recommend.

Nothing in Blackpool is worth a six hour round trip.

Sandcastle is fine but it’s no better or worse than any other similar swimming centre.

I would, drive there in the late morning, have lunch, go to the sandcastle, go on the pier, get some tea, drive through the illuminations, put him in his PJs and let him sleep whilst you drive home. It would be a lovely day.

@Confused19831983 my friends and I often book haven in Blackpool around October because we like to take the kids to see the lights and use the haven as a base for some days out in Blackpool. If DC is 2 maybe consider a few days with him there? Ive found it’s cheaper than staying in a b&b for a few nights. I know Blackpool is hell on earth for many people but I’ve always found the people friendly and my kids think it’s magical.

Your north east- south shields has a huge beach with funfair, amusements, big park with huge duck pond rights across the road and big children's play area.

Theres also the lighthouse and roman fort.

Yes if it were nearer. Unless you stay over, it will be too much time in the car. Find something closer. I do sympathise, I do desperate things do to boredom.

Glad you had a good trip OP, thought you might be closer than 2 hours from Scarborough.

I used to go to Cramlington for work and there appeared to be a leisure centre with slides next to the shopping centre but this was some years ago.

Crownit · 08/09/2025 08:32

I’m hoping that in the end OP you went to a different park / playground and got him (and you!) an ice cream.

Total mileage less than 2 miles.

He is 2 OP. A 6 hour round trip to a theme park? Just no

Crownit · 08/09/2025 08:33

Oh, you went on a 4 hour round trip

I think the answer to ' AIBU to go Blackpool' is always 'Yes!'.

It is not a nice place.
