To turn my holiday photos into a coffee table book for myself?

I’m on holiday at the moment and I’ve been taking a lot of photos - some of them have turned out really nicely (I think, anyway!) and I’m looking at getting them printed into a book as a physical reminder of the holiday - but is that totally narcissistic of me?!

Of course not. Photo books are great.

AdoraBell · 05/09/2025 16:24

Absolutely not, get it done and enjoy it.

InMyOpenOnion · 05/09/2025 16:24

I make one after every holiday. They are nice memories and I always think most digital photos just end up sitting on your phone or Google photos if you don't print some of them.

Pissenlit · 05/09/2025 16:25

Why would it be in any way narcissistic to make yourself a nice souvenir?

ThrowingPebblesAtTheMoon · 05/09/2025 16:25

It would only be narcissistic if you gave copies to everyone you know as a Christmas present! It's for yourself, go for it and enjoy.

Hatty65 · 05/09/2025 16:26

It sounds lovely provided you aren't going to expect other people to look through it! 😂I have traumatic memories of 'slide shows' in the 70s of other people's holiday photos.

dodobedo · 05/09/2025 16:27

Do it! They look lovely - friend of mine travels all over the world on her own and does one of these for every visit - she's got loads. The ones you see advertised on TV.

🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣 I did think that it would be nice for my family as it’s a family holiday but I wouldn’t force it on them!

My DH and I made our honeymoon photos into a phonebook. It is a lovely souvenir.

Actually I think grandparents might love it, but I really wouldn't offer it to anyone else!!

Sadly I don’t have any grandparents but I do (genuinely!) think my aunts would love it - they’re kind of like grandparents in a way. I’m just obsessed with the pictures (again I know it sounds very narcissistic but I think they look nice!)

I print photos every month of all the things we've done/ places we've been. They're my dementia diaries for the future.

TheChosenTwo · 05/09/2025 16:42

Just go for it. I make photo books every year and after some holidays if there are enough good ones that make the cut.
i make them primarily for me, they sit on a shelf and every now and then I pull one out to have a look, so do the kids. They’re not for anyone else!

PicaK · 05/09/2025 16:44

I buy the fb photo books. Because I'm lazy.

crazeekat · 05/09/2025 16:46

It sounds like u have had a narcissist in ur life that u have to doubt yourself that you deserve to enjoy ur time and have beautiful memories for yourself. Make the book, make sure u pick all the pics you love, and enjoy looking at them forever xx

Sorry! I was thinking of grandparents of any children you might have, but the doting aunts of any aged nieces (I speak as one myself) might love the photo album.
They are beautiful photos with a kind of old-fashioned postcard look to them which really works. I see no narcissism. If there was page after page of you looking coy in a bikini or sophisticated in a sequinned dress, that would be another matter.

I’m doing the same, we had a big family holiday this year & want to do the same.

Does anyone know a way to do a photo book that allows you add captions etc to certain photos? I don’t want to forget some of the funny memories for some of the photos

It’s okay! It’s been five years now, I’m used to it! I think I’ll get one sorted, it’ll be a lovely memory!

Definitely not narcissistic!

I keeping meaning to start doing this going forward - it gets them off your phone and if you're like me, a hard copy means you're likely to flick through from time to time.

Nothing beats looking at old photos!

whoknows1230 · 05/09/2025 17:02

I think it’s a lovely idea and you should do it. They’ll be lovely for you to look through and, like a previous poster mentioned, you’ll be more likely to look through them and relive your happy memories if they’re a physical book rather than on your phone.

I keep meaning to make a photo book of each holiday/special event but never get round to it.

Does anyone have recommendations, other than the usual Snapfish or Photobox?

I would like them all to be the same height and width so they look neat on a shelf but I’m worried that when I choose one photo book provider, they may change their style or go bust then I won’t be able to order any more the same. I’m probably overthinking this 😂

My adult DD and her friend had a fab holiday in New York a couple of years ago. When it was DDs birthday the friend gave her a book she had had made up of their holiday. I thought it was a lovely gift.

Totally go for it.

We still have photo albums from the 1980s, 90s and early 2000s before we had a digital camera. I still enjoy getting them out to look at sometimes

OllyBJolly · 05/09/2025 17:45

Do it! I have one from my last holiday and it really cheers me up just to flick through it now and again. You never know what's in front of you so cherish the happy times.

I remember these slide shows @Hatty65 ! Sitting in some relative's dark living room eating cheese and onion on cocktail sticks and watching endless pictures of people grinning inanely at a camera .....

titchy · 05/09/2025 18:04

I use the Photobooks app for ours. Can add captions to each page, have different layouts, backgrounds etc.
