Not really an AIBU as such but posting in here for a bit more traffic/opinions/general consensus.

I have a 3 week old and was invited to a mums and tots group by a friend with her 2 Yr old just so we could have a coffee and chat whilst her one plays. I said I'd maybe come along after the 1st vaccinations as I'm a bit wary of baby getting catching anything.

I drove past another group today and there were lots of tiny looking babies going in although ofc I don't know how old they are. Maybe I am a bit overcautious? First child if you hadn't guessed

Should I just go along next week or hold off another few weeks? This is just a little community group I'd be going to but it is a pretty big/busy group. Baby would only be with me in pram /arms anyway as has no real interest in anything as of yet like playmates etc.

IABU - just go!
IANBU - hold off

First baby I waited until vaccinations.
Youngest I was at groups at 3 weeks old.
As long as you have recovered well from birth I'd just go out and enjoy.
I got very bored with my first not doing anything for weeks hence why I was out and about quickly with my second.

It depends on how much you really want/need 'mum friends', as obviously the group is for you and not the 3 week old.

If you can hold out a bit longer, it would make sense.

I wouldn’t have thought too much about it at all to be honest. Baby will be in pram/in your arms anyway and at that point for me they are no more at risk than they are when you’re in the supermarket, wandering round the shops, in a cafe etc, assuming you do those things I wouldn’t be concerned at all

As far as I know babies are generally fine to be out and about before vaccinations (they have the immunity you pass onto them in the womb) but I wasn’t really out and about much until 6ish weeks anyway. Just go when you’re happy and comfortable to.

A baby that age is going to be held by you or in her pram (as opposed to a toddler crawling on the floor and licking things). So I wouldn’t see any more risk in this than anywhere else you might take a newborn - cafe, shop etc.

It’s also pretty unlikely you’ll encounter anything that they’re going to be vaccinated for at 8 weeks anyway. Maybe rotavirus, but that is mainly spread through touch after people haven’t washed their hands. So again, a baby in your arms isn’t really at risk. It’s not like they’re at risk of polio before they can get vaccinated against it.

I only went to baby groups for pre walkers when I had a little one. It wasn't so much worry about not havings vaccines but I found that toddlers were a terrible vectors for all colds!! But true baby group for under 6month olds were lovely

If you want to go then you should go. The baby will be fine
