Dogs in the office

I’m not a dog person. I don’t really like them but can bear them for a short amount of time.

I have been asked to interview for a job and the website talks about having dogs in the office as a plus point.

This isn’t a plus for me.

I imagine dogs in the office are overly intrusive and I think it changes the dynamic.

I’d like to hear from people who work in offices where dogs are allowed and how it is day to day, especially if you aren’t a big dog fan.

Honestly, I"ve got two dogs and I don't get offended if people don't make a fuss over them.

I get that they can be annoying at times and when visitors come round I make sure they are not jumped up.

I'd love to work in a dog-friendly office.

I much prefer being around live animals than dead animals. Having to keep my food in a fridge where people have put dead animals and animals' bodily secretions is horrible but if I said this at work I'd be considered a madwoman!

I'm a dog person but spending my day with other people's is a definite nono. I would ask to visit the office on an average dog day and suss it out.

You haven’t answered my question.

Why would you even say I’d be an arsehole to do something I have no intention of doing?

If I said ‘our group of friends is planning a holiday and they are are trying to choose between a & b locations. I won’t go to a as I don’t like it so I’ve said I’m happy to give this trip a miss if the group decides to go to a’ you’d the one posting ‘you can’t agree to go to a and then moan about it’ when I have very clearly said I’m not going to a.

It’s just a way of you being a dick to me because you disagree with my opinion.

My posts are very clear that I have ZERO intention of trying to change the culture or environment of an established workplace.

You can roll your eyes all you like but we’ve all come across your brand of twattery which completely avoids the actual question.

Because you would be. It's as simple as that. I haven't said ARE an arsehole for not liking the idea. But going by your responses to me here you definitely seem like you would start complaining after a while especially if it changed slightly and dogs where there more often than they've said 🤷‍♀️

I reckon this will purely depend on the dogs and owners and the office policy, rather than being something you can predict. As an example, my friends dog sits quietly in a corner, doesn't really like to greet people, not interested in my dog at all. My dog is a barmy labrador who absolutely loves all people and dogs. If it's an office full of quiet, aging, slightly anti social or very well trained dogs then you'll be happy as Larry. I would ask for an office visit/description of how it works and any rules they have in place on where dogs can go and how they should behave. Even if currently it's quiet dogs snoozing under their owners desks, if they don't have rules in place I guess nothing stops a newbie bringing a dog like mine, or for example if someone gets a puppy and brings it before it's fully trained (and even then teenage dogs can be really disobedient) - so it really depends what they allow for you to future proof it. You'll also have to take into account that most people there have chosen a dog friendly office, they'll like dogs, and you might find they really love dogs, so tricky explaining you don't like them and then still building happy relationships. If every time their dog says hello you look horrified they might not be your biggest fan (equally, I'm a dog owner and I get some people don't like them and don't wanna be sniffed but some dog people really can't get their heads around it and take it as a personal insult).
Speak to them first, but honestly, I don't like spiders (as an example) and I'd not be going to a spider friendly office, it'd be a no from me before starting
