To be sick of e scooters and bikes on the pavement

Cannot leave the house without someone (usually male) whizzing inches away from me on an e scooter or a bike, uber eats or whatever it is.

Had a few near misses, I thought they were illegal on pavements but doesn't seem to be regulated at all. The other month a young lad came whizzing around the corner on an e scooter and collided with me, luckily no injuries but I had a go at him, he just said sorry then smirked and went off.

Just fed up, especially those damn scooters as you get all sorts of drunken/drugged up men on them.

Used to like listening to music on my walks but feels too risky now.

They are illegal and coincidentally, the police put a post on the local FB page about them today. They are only allowed to be ridden on private land, I.e. your garden, or similar. To be on a road, they must be insured and taxed in the same way as any motor vehicle.

I’d bet that 99.9% don’t follow those laws.

How is that coincidental?

I assume, coincidental to the OP's posting about it.

e-scooters are a menace but there don't seem to be enough police around to do anything about it. It's not clear that the youngsters even know it's illegal. Or would care if they did.

As for bikes on the pavement, there's a blind eye to little kids on the pavement because the roads are dangerous but it seemingly never occurs to anyone to teach that unless it's a shared footpath/cyclepath the bike should be on the road when they're older.

And when did bicycle bells go out of fashion? Not that they are much use if the pedestrian is deaf or wearing headphones. In any case, steam should always give way to sail IMO.

Thanks, OP, for this opportunity for a rantette.

It's not just on pavements. I see them in bike lanes too and they sneak up sp quickly sometimes. I know that there are people taking the regulators off which means they are as fast as many motorcycles in the city.

They are legal where I live and recently there are companies in the city that leave them around, you can drive them wherever you like so long as you can pay with a credit card for every km. The city itself has made some arrangement with the company as part of their "active transport" strategy. Now they are all over the place just left there, and wizzing all over in pedestrian areas, bike lanes, and roads.

Transport in cities evolves. Better than streets clogged with cars.
