Farage not covered in main media

anyusernamesnotused · 04/09/2025 11:26

Link attached AIBU to feel like the main media appears to be protecting Farage..He never seems to be questioned in depth on anything. why is he being protected?

Whatever your beliefs, surely there should be a fairness with how people are interviewed.

I'm happy to be told I'm wrong, it could be I'm only seeing things from one perspective but I would expect both this and KS comments yesterday to have made the main media.

Also to add, I'm not interested in arguing over people's beliefs, everyone has the reasons to feel the way they do. I just believe everyone should have access to as much information about all parties as possible and it should be equitable.Raskin about Farage

Isn't it a case of the rich own the media and the rich wants him in? Like trump and the rich?

That might be wrong though.

MissyB1 · 04/09/2025 11:37

He’s certainly given far more airtime and attention than the size of their seats in parliament warrants. His party is being promoted almost to be seen as the next Government. How much airtime or media attention is given to the Lib Dems? Virtually zero! Lib Dem have 72 MPs, Reform have 5. Who is Farage bribing 🤔

Locutus2000 · 04/09/2025 11:38

Your title's a bit wonky OP, sounds like you think Farage is under-exposed rather than under-challenged.

Yes I was slightly confused at first!

Lunde · 04/09/2025 11:43

He skipped Parliament yesterday to appear before the US Congress where, among other things, he was called "a Putin loving, free speech imposter."

How much time does he actually spend as an MP? I know when he was an MEP he was always on the lists for the lowest attendance. If he was a school-kid there would be hefty fines and in the workplace he would be sacked.

Oh, fair. Let me see if I can change it. Thanks

Yes, this! Its just so obvious, maybe we all need to question it more but how?

And yet...the BBC haven't covered this?! (As far as I can see)

This makes me sad but you are probably right. It doesn't feel remotely democratic though.

I loved Ed Davey’s comment “Nigel has gone over to the US to tell them Britain is awful - if you don’t like it over here Nigel maybe don’t catch a return flight?”
If only! 😂

Really? I would say the opposite. The type of people who voted for brexit and who continue to support Farage are generally stupid and a bit thick. Whilst it isn't always the case, there is a clear correlation between money and levels of intelligence. I would think most Farage supporters are thick and therefore definitely not rich.

Absolutely this, I bet many of the general public wouldn’t even be able to name the leader of the Lib Demd but everyone knows Farage, it’s insane the amount of airtime he gets.

Iwantmyoldnameback · 04/09/2025 12:59

He is usually reported on daily but strangely not yesterday when he had his arse handed to him. He was also wearing a GBeebies badge on his lapel.

The intelligence of his supporters is by-the-by. The rich want him in because they (the wealthy elites) stand to make far more money with a rampantly capitalist free-market economy of the type that Reform are proposing.

Greenangellite · 04/09/2025 13:11

I agree. He's always recieved alot of attention in the media compared to the greens for example. Its not preportinate is it?

WaitfortheGood · 04/09/2025 13:12

I agree with you he spouts what he likes.

It is very easy to be a leader in opposition - they can talk any sh*t because they don't have to carry it out. Much harder to actually have to write policies and make legal changes which have a positive impact.

A council leader (Reform) local to me, was interviewed on TV last night. He got away with saying he was going to ‘save the council, hundreds of millions, in fact billions of pounds’.

Really!
The council doesnt even have a start budget of ‘billions of pounds’…and even if they had, are they going to save it all and have no council services? …😂 Idiot.

Maybe you should stop watching the BBC. It's laughable the way the BBC covers migrant protests or Reform campaigns. They deliberately select the stupidest, least articulate people they can find. It happened during the recent flag campaign. The guy they spoke to was ugly, ignorant and fanatical. He perfectly fitted the stereotype of a yob.

You talk about Reform voters being stupid. What about those on the left? I have never met such fanatical, intolerant, hate-filled human beings. They have such a stupid, simplistic, black and white view of the world. They (the goodies) are right and everyone else (the baddies) is wrong. Apart from their breathtaking smugness, one of the things that most strikes me is the attention-seeking. Often, they just like the idea of being angry and left-wing. It's a pose. Many never grow out of the adolescent rebel stage. Of course, lots of people go through an obnoxious phase in adolescence, when they think they know everything, and want to provoke and antagonise the older generation. It's a natural part of growing up. But intelligent people leave it behind. They quickly realise that the world is a complex and difficult place and that no one has all the answers. Intelligent people, in my experience, usually end up as skeptical, slightly pessimistic conservatives.

Batstink · 04/09/2025 13:45

They’d probably do what they’ve done in Nottingham and refuse to speak to the mainstream press. It’s terribly annoying and inconvenient to be held to account.

ArseInTheCoOpWindow · 04/09/2025 13:51

I’m so sick of how much air time he has.

His stupid grinning face is ALWAYS on tv gobbing off.

Yet we hardly ever see much in Lib Dem’s or Greens ( yesterday excepted) and they have more mp’s.

Hes being promoted to future prime minister by the media.

NormalAuntFanny · 04/09/2025 14:03

It does make me thing of that extreme right wing party in Greece, golden dawn I think, who were everywhere on the TV and doing well then stopped being platformed so much and mostly disappeared. If only...

It's clickbait but with political consequences.

doubleshotcappuccino · 04/09/2025 14:09

you're right - daily mail trying to guide the narrative - from what we understand from the past Camilla and Charles have strong influence there and yet, again, do nothing - people with real struggles are being flagged a path of hate to look down instead of the truth which is in the other direction

TheGreatWesternShrew · 04/09/2025 14:29

As a former journalist, every journalist I know despises him. It’s possible they just don’t want to talk to him 😂

TheGreatWesternShrew · 04/09/2025 14:33

@Dappy777ah yes, the leftist attention seeking. So different from reform voters who very intelligently and demurely spray paint England (and Norwegian) flags everywhere. So complex of them.

blackbunny · 04/09/2025 14:46

The papers are right wing leaning, they will not criticise Farage.
