Lapland with an almost 4 yo

Hi all, as the title suggests we’re looking to go to Lapland with our daughter this December. I have some inheritance put aside for this.

Long story short, my husband and I have separated- amicably, and this is a bucket list trip that I would love to involve him in. Next year may be different if we have partners or whatever so I feel like it’s now or never really.

Our DD will be 4 beginning of February, has the most incredible memory so I don’t doubt that she will remember this trip. She is however quite short for her age so I’m not sure if it would be wholly suitable for her - any thoughts on this welcome!

Also, secondly, where to stay? I think we will go with TUI, budget around £3-4000 not including spends.

Open to all suggestions and thoughts, thank you!

AIBU to take a 3 almost 4 year old?

Not at all! Sounds like a lovely trip. Take the opportunity while you can!

I think she will be fine.
We got to go for the day when DC was 5.
The only thing she will probably be too small for is the skidoo - like a quad on skis, that the child rode themselves where we were.
Everything else, sleigh ride with reindeer, husky ride, sledge on ski slope, making snowmen would be great for her age.
Anything inside Santa's workshops are perfect too.
It will be less intense for you as well as you are going for a holiday not a day trip

Sound like a lovely holiday and great that you and her Dad can go together.

It was so magical.... and I am really not someone who is overly into Christmas or "making memories" but thinking to our day in Lapland does make me feel sweet and cosy inside

Maybe book later in Dec as some years there hasn't been snow in the earlier weeks

DS had a Thomas the Tank Engine day at that age and absolutely adored it. It was very well done and he took everything at face value and really believed he had seen Thomas and the Fat Controller. He was certainly old enough to appreciate it.

Funnily enough I did ask him recently if he remembered it (he's 26) and he doesn't, but that is absolutely not a reason not to go. It will be a magical and stimulating experience which is vital for childhood development.

I done Disneyland with my then 4&6 year old. Fast forward 8 years and they still talk about it 🥰 I know it’s not the same as Lapland but honestly, my kids genuinely couldn’t tell you what they ate at lunch but recall so much more than me from that trip!

I haven’t been personally but my brother and sister in law went last year , child was 7, & they all loved it! Best holiday ever and they’re all quite well travelled .Everything about it was magical by all accounts .
Personally I think 3 may be a bit young but im sure there’s something for everyone , your budget is half what they spent though , although they did go ‘ all inclusive ‘ where all meals and activities ( husky ride , reindeer farm , quad biking ) and snow clothing are included .
