Have I got too much on my plate?

I have got two little DC- 11 months old and 4 years old. Baby is starting at childminder this week and DC1 has gone back to nursery. I am going back to work next week.
I am studying for masters from work which I have started back on already and can't defer anymore and have to finish it as I am at the last stage of it all and would be finished by march next year.
I am also starting to take driving lessons as I haven't done yet and the school we are applying for DC1 is far, so will need driving.
DH works hard and is self employed, he never takes any breaks and helps with chores like laundry, cleaning etc. He also manages a property portfolio by himself and I help him out with some admin. One of the tenants is leaving and they have been giving us hard time.
I am feeling so overwhelmed and emotional now with all of it and feels like I have got lots of my plate and don't know what can I drop to feel calmer.

I have booked some time away during Christmas but DH thinks it will be all stressful with young DC, but I think it's much deserved all inclusive holiday.

I’m with your DH on this.

It all comes down to an individual. Some people thrive with lots to do and keeping people whereas others just can’t manage. You just need to figure out what is too much for you and be mindful of that.

Twistedfirestarters · 03/09/2025 15:25

That would be too much for me yeah. Some would thrive on it but I'd feel overwhelmed. I think it's entirely reasonable for you to be struggling.
Any other way to get to school i.e. taxis in the short term? Sounds like you're not short of money. That seems like the only thing you can drop.

SisSuffragette · 03/09/2025 15:26

Honestly I'd drop driving lessons for now until your masters is done.
The holiday depends on if your kids are easy going or not. My eldest would have been fine but we took my youngest to Spain at 5yo and it was tricky to say the least!

Exactly. There's no objective standard of 'too much'. If you can manage things without too much exhaustion and frazzlement, then it's not too much; if not, you probably need to look at reducing your workload and responsibilities.

The easiest thing to drop would seem to be your driving lessons, unless this is something you find easy and stress-free, and you can manage to find time. If not, I'd postpone until after your final master's coursework has gone in, and your DH will have to do the school run, or you apply for a closer-by school for your daughter.

Yes it’s a lot.

I’d pause on the driving until your masters is complete.

I’d suggest the two small kids, full time work and the masters is still a lot - but if it’s time limited, you may have to try and push through.

ComfortFoodCafe · 03/09/2025 16:21

Pause the driving till ypur masters done, you wont manage to do all this.

Hello39 · 03/09/2025 16:26

Ask for study leave for the masters.
Reduce work if possible
Take annual leave when needed for study / rest / family. Can you buy annual leave / take unpaid leave
Cut out non essentials - e.g. don't waste time scrolling on social media. Order online.
Let dh manage the tenant

I’m with your DH on this.

I think it sounds great. All inclusive is easy and they escape the Christmas madness.
