Anyone successfully stopped a dog from fouling outside your property

Im desperate. There is a dog that is repeatedly fouling outside our bins. I have no way of finding out whose dog it is. The problem is it’s a lane at the back of us but it’s a cul de sac - so the dog belongs to a neighbour . Ive tried vinegar and put up notices but it continues. Any ideas gratefully recieved!

Well I know that… I actually said that

Yes so you need to address the owner about leaving dog shit there, and not put the blame and responsibility on the dog.

OverlyFragrant · 02/09/2025 21:30

Zoflora is toxic to dogs. Don't leave it down unless you want to poison the animal.
The only way of sorting this is to confront the owner and/or return the shit.

Do you have a local whatsapp group etc?

Leave a message on it (and put up signs next to the bins) saying you will sprinkle raisins all around the bins. Wait a couple of days then do it.

No... do not do this, it could kill the dog, not dogs fault it has an idiot owner. Find the owner and let him know to watch his dog and pick up his poop, or you will have to go to council and report

And you need to learn how to read. I DONT KNOW WHO THE OWNER IS!

Yes but the owner is responsible for this. So you need to find out who they are.
They are the one letting a dog shit outside your property.

How do I find out? Set up camp on the pavement? Hire a private detective?? I KNOW its the owners fault

Do you know for sure it is a dog?
I remember a post on here where someone was infuriated about a dog shitting on their driveway so they set up a camera. It was a badger.

MissHollysDolly · 02/09/2025 21:37

We have one of those ring cameras that we can talk to. Is that an option? You can then be One Of Those People who then post the evidence on local Facebook groups.

Hankunamatata · 02/09/2025 21:37

Bleach every time

Sidebeforeself · 02/09/2025 21:38

You cant see the path where it happens from our window ledge so I dont think a camera would catch it

Attach a wireless camera to the wall so you can see
or get a dummy one, that might be enough of a deterrent

No local WhatsApp group. We already have signs up saying no fouling but obviously the owners dont care. What will raisins do?? I dont want to make the dog ill as its not the dogs fault

You're getting some awful and dangerous advice here. Raisins can kill a dog. Similarly throwing bleach around is also dangerous. Cameras and finding out who it is your best bet.
