How do you pull yourself out of a horrible mood/frame of mind? Struggling

Every so often, typically in the latter part of my cycle, I have days where I am so sad, low, anxious…can’t do much. Just feel rubbish. My mind feels heavy

How to drag yourself out of this? I hate it, I can’t even identify what’s wrong!

I tend to make sure I get lots of sleep, get out in the fresh air lots and have time to myself. Maybe spend time with people who make you laugh or whom you can have a good chat to. I get easily overstimulated and cranky at the latter end of my cycle and this can spiral into anxiety and tears sometimes. Staying away from alcohol and junk food also helps my mood to stabilise. It's crap though, I sympathise x

I always listen to my favourite music turn it up and have a good sing. Always makes me feel better

Whatareyoutalkingaboutnow · 02/09/2025 13:31

When I feel like this i do one of three things.

Go for a long walk somewhere nice, woods, a park or anywhere green and quiet.

Go into town, get nails done, or buy some small treat. Last time it was new toiletries from TK Maxx.

Run a bath, add nice bubbles or oil (see above) take a glass of wine or a cuppa.

Try not to figure out why you feel 'blue'. Just take time to relax, make sure you get a good night's sleep. It's most probably hormonal. It'll pass. You're not alone in this, we all suffer these strange spells, 💐

Distraction is what helps me- the thing is that usually when you don’t feel good mentally do something physical- go for a walk, make a wreath from greenery, cut the grass, craft something, go somewhere on bicycle…just distract yourself from the gloomy feelings.

Fresh air helps a lot.

I used to take an Ashwagandha supplement as well it helped me too.

BallerinaRadio · 02/09/2025 13:36

I know it sounds weird, but listening to 'sad' music often helps me

lovelydayIhave · 02/09/2025 13:37

It’s also key to remember that the gloomy feelings you have at the moment are mainly hormonal caused.
And it’ll pass in a few days.

AllJoyAndNoFun · 02/09/2025 13:39

I find doing something productive and absorbing but mentally easy helps- like gardening or batch cooking- someone on insta summed it up as “busy hands, quiet mind” . Works for me so maybe worth a try.

Doing something nice for someone else always helps me. I don't always feel like doing the nice thing when I am feeling low but when I can and do, it helps my mood.
Sending someone a nice message, buying someone a coffee, helping someone with bags/door when you are out. Takes me out of myself and my miseries a bit.

Hollowvoice · 02/09/2025 13:49

I've been in a grump for about a week now, just can't shake it but it's making it really hard to do the stuff I want/need to get done

GoldDuster · 02/09/2025 14:04

Get outside, bonus points for a view, and think about all the people who have stood there having a shit day over the past centuries. Look at some people passing by, appreciate that they all have their own shit to deal with, and life is sometimes hard, and stop expecting it not to be so sometimes.

Go home, stick the kettle on, give thanks for the ability to do so, and some music that reminds me of good times and know that I'll feel that way again.

Loud music and force myself to dance to it. Big dance moves.Takes an effort to get started but always works
