For cinema, eating out, clothes, make up, trips etc..
Mine is 35-40 a week depending but that has to cover everything. I know it's more than some people have but it doesn't feel like that much, luckily my clothes are pretty much all second hand or low cost which helps.

I'm trying to afford driving lessons and 1.5 hours a week will cost me about £50-60 a week, so the above will have to be reduced, or I can reduce the amount I save but I own my home and live alone so it's the constant anxiety of having to pay for a repair or emergency. The only option is to look for a better paid job which I am doing.

£60
It doesn't feel like enough though obviously lots of people have less.
Last week, met a friend for her birthday, £25 train fare £25 lunch, £25 present. This week, two bras, next week, one theatre show. It doesn't go as far as it used to!

Overthebow · 02/09/2025 10:07

That doesn’t sound like a kitchen but if you’re saving a decent amount then you’ll be in a good position. I wouldn’t reduce your saving until you have a really good emergency fund saved up.

Overthebow · 02/09/2025 10:09

We have around £200 a week each fun money, after mortgage, all bills, food and saving.

tumblingdowntherabbithole · 02/09/2025 10:11

About £150 each but we don’t have children to worry about. Both work part-time and own our own businesses.

Newstarttoday35 · 02/09/2025 10:20

Thanks for the replies, £40 these days is a meal out for 2 with 2 drinks and I don't drink alcohol. I don't get any beauty treatments any more just haircuts, do my own colour.
I really do want to start the driving lessons, I'm mid 30s and I would like to start a family and know it would help a lot.

£130 a week but it doesn’t go far if me or DD needs clothes or something

iamnotalemon · 02/09/2025 11:33

I have $100. I don’t have children if that’s relevant.

hattie43 · 02/09/2025 14:47

I have £250 but if that runs out I’ll just spend more . It sounds a lot but everything is so expensive these days and I meet different friends 3x a week so always meals out, band tickets etc

nodramamama · 02/09/2025 17:06

We have £50 a month each for pure personal spend, but things like haircuts clothes, cinema , meal out with friends etc come out of joint account anyway. We could have a lot more each, but investing the rest and paying off mortgage plus investments for our son. We are both self employed so value the security of doing this rather than spending a lot on ourselves at this stage. In a few years teen will be 18 and hopefully have his own cash and we might incredible our spending then .

InMyShowgirlEra · 02/09/2025 17:10

It depends. We have £250 per week for food and fun. After the food shop, and anything we've bought out of the joint account, I split whatever is left. Sometimes it's £80, sometimes it's £40.

noworklifebalance · 02/09/2025 17:11

Kindly, you will get a range of responses including ones that may, inadvertently, make you feel bad about your own situation. Just like the threads asking about people’s savings, income etc.
One thing for sure, most things cost more and don’t feel as good value as before.

Pavingprincess · 02/09/2025 17:15

We have join finances and bills and savings come out at the start of the month then we spend what’s left. Luckily we don’t have to look too closely at our finances as we have a bit of slack and don’t like eating out or buying clothes or house things or expensive hair / beauty things. So it’s beer if we go out with friends and a takeaway every month or so.

Augustus40 · 02/09/2025 17:19

About £40 a week. Skincare and make up though I do buy vitamins and supplements included in that plus any household stuff eg new linen lines etc so possibly £30 then and a social group is monthly within that. I never go out weekly these years (early 60s). I cut and dye my own hair and do a pretty good job.

Welcome2thecircus · 02/09/2025 17:29

We don't have a set amount as this would change month to month. We both work full time and have 3 kids, so most of our time is accounted for. But if we really wanted something, we'd get it, within reason.

When they're older we'll have more time to shop and think and eat.. 😂

TheLovelinessOfDemons · 02/09/2025 18:17

£3 for an employee discount meal at the store where I work.

Bluedenimdoglover · 02/09/2025 18:43

If that's what your budget allows that's fine. No good spending what you can't afford. Most people with lavish amounts to hand will spend on things you probably wouldn't countenance. Good luck with driving lessons.🍀

Fispi · 02/09/2025 19:20

£22.50 per week. Vinted has been great for clothes. It covers the gym which I get a discount on through work and covers skincare. I dont spend on anything else. Its nice to have.

Clearoutthecrap · 02/09/2025 19:21

Loadsamoney but not much fun ☹️

Septemberisthenewyear · 02/09/2025 19:22

£200 a month to cover hair cuts, going out, clothes. Family outings and entertainment comes from a different budget.
