Every time I look out of my window I just see piles and piles of dog poo in my neighbours' small yard. Am I being unreasonable to think this is an environmental health issue, or is it just something unpleasant to look at? When I say piles I mean actual huge piles, and multiple of them. I have a photo but not sure if you can see it very well. One of their cats has been sick a few times in my garden and I'm wondering if it's related.

It's particularly bothering me right now, as their dog has just been barking for a solid couple of hours without pause for breath.

Have you tried talking to them about this? That will do more to solve the problem than posting pictures on the internet ever will.

Northernladdette · 01/09/2025 18:06

Report it online to your environmental dpt
at your local council

I doubt that somehow!

Ugh that’s disgusting! I was staying overnight at a guest house recently which looked out on someone’s back yard and it was exactly as you’ve described. I was so glad I didn’t live next door to them!

I know how difficult it is to confront someone especially when you have to live next door to them - if they’re difficult, it can strain otherwise peaceful relations. Do you talk to each other? What are they like? We were able to talk to our neighbour about his loud music but that’s because we had a friendly relationship over the years. It’s hard if you barely speak and your first proper conversation is a negative one.

We barely speak, just hello occasionally. I've taken their cat round to them a few times as she got stuck in my yard and they didn't even say thank you.

There's more they've done which I believe is animal cruelty, which makes me doubt their approachable nature, but I don't want to drip feed or go off on a tangent.

That's horrible.
I would report it , they will tell them that neighbours have reported a smell.

CagneyNYPD1 · 01/09/2025 18:47

Ew, that’s gross. I have a dog and we do miss the odd poo in the garden, particularly when the grass is covered in leaves. But that’s a disgusting amount of poo.

How many dogs?

Phoenixfire1988 · 01/09/2025 19:06

The smell must of been awful in the recent hot weather ! Report to environmental health . Is the house owned or rented ?

user1476613140 · 01/09/2025 19:08

I love your neighbour's greenhouse.

Not all neighbours are approachable!

SummerFrog25 · 01/09/2025 19:11

I'd just avoid looking at their yard out of the upstairs windows if the way out look bothered me. But I'd have long ago been repotting them to the council because of the. Smell

Melonjuice · 01/09/2025 19:21

If the dog has been in barking incessantly for two hours or more, I would call the RSPCA

Suusue · 01/09/2025 19:24

Report to RSPCA and keep doing it.

Newmeagain · 08/02/2026 11:23

@Welikebeingcosy did you end up speaking to the council about this and get any sort of resolution?

I ask because I have a similar problem - not quite as bad but bad enough that I am worried what it will be like when it’s warmer and I may want to sit outside or have my back door open.

Damnd · 08/02/2026 11:25

Yeah I did and they didn't do anything.

The social housing landlords initially said they would deal with it, but they came round the back of the houses on a day the dog wasn't barking and didn't hear anything so closed the case. I called again recently when the barking was 12 hours all night and they said to call council. Council told me to do a two week log but it's so intermittent in the winter that it wouldn't cover a two week period.

I wrote an anonymous post on Facebook and it seems to have gone quiet since then. Also another neighbour knocked and kicked off at them.

If it kicks off in the summer again I'll do a two week log then call council.
