Car tracker

I have found out recently that my husband has put a tracker of some description in/on 'my' car - it's actually all registered under his name but I am the only one to drive it and it is referred to as my car.

For reasons I won't go into I wasn't where I said I was (nothing untoward but I just needed time to myself and it's difficult without being questioned) one day and that's when this came out.

He said the car is his asset so it's not unreasonable to have the tracker in it in case it's stolen etc. But obviously he tracks me with it as literally the first time I'm somewhere different it kicks off.

Am I right in thinking that as the car is officially his there's nothing I can do? I know if the car was in my name it could be reported to the police as coercive control maybe?

Also I might not be able to post again in reply but I will gratefully read any and all responses. And Ive name-changed for this and will be name-changing again 🙂

Sorry not sure if this is an AIBU but thought best place to ask.

His allowed to install a tracker on a car he owns for the purpose of retrieving it should it be stolen.

However as far as I’m aware anyone who uses the car is supposed to know it’s traceable and the data is to only be used for the purpose it was intended for so not to stalk you.

That your husband was tracking your movements without your knowledge is an offence and you could talk to the police about this. I've seen references to the "Protection from Harassment Act 1997" suggesting that this is what he could be in breach of.
If he owns the car then yes he can install a tracker but that does not grant him the right to track your movements. Would you have used the car if you had known?
I don't see any harm in having chat with the police first and take it from there.
