Are feature walls still a thing?

We have a boring white bedroom. I saw a gorgeous bedding set in Dunelm but it’s “busy”. I was going to do a feature wall behind the bed with nice wallpaper but now I don’t know if I should?! What have you done?

I think they are still a thing! I have 3 in my house and I think they are still relevant

It is your home, if you like the look then just go for it. You should decorate in a way that'll make you happy.

I do think feature walls are still about although I think the "new" version of feature walls is the panelling trend. If you're particularly concerned about being on trend you could do panelling alongside the wallpaper I've seen it done a few ways and can look nice.

Honestly it's just important that you love it.

If the bedding set is busy I wouldn't put the bed against a feature wall that was also busy...

It's up to you if you want to have a feature wall, don't go by whether something is "on trend" or not. You're the one who has to live in it, so if you think you'll like it then go ahead.

Who gives a shit?

It's your bedroom. If you like it, do it. If you don't, don't do it

I can't with feature walls because I'm still traumatised by the 2000s. My last house, the previous owners painted the living room dark grey with the exception of the wall with the fireplace - this was a hideously bright red. It took so many coats to paint it all to an even white so we could actually make it literally any other colour 😭

I'd rather go back to the magnolia of the 90s than feature walls.

I think in truth they have always been a thing. My parents had a feature wall in the 60’s! If it is balanced and attractive, it will always be a thing. If it’s just for the sake of it, because it’s a thing, it looks pointless anyhow.

If you have a 'busy' feature wall it can limit your bedding/other options. Depending on what colour you want on the walls, would different tones be better?

Yeah I have a feature wall in my bedroom and I still love it. I didn't do the wall behind the bed though and probably wouldn't if the bedding is busy too
