To be irritated that John Swinney is going to spend next week banging on about Gaza?

Why fix your own shit schools, prisons, councils and health service when you can fly the Palestinian flag at Holyrood for free I guess.

Attention-seeking wee wanker.

Are the U.K. arming those countries like they are Israel?

What do you mean when you say “arming Israel” because that reads as though we’re sending guns/bullets/bombs to Israel…

morbidd · 30/08/2025 17:34

Man cares about the welfare of people and you are complaining about this!?

Lolapusht · 30/08/2025 17:37

Chocolateisameal · 30/08/2025 14:35

Ok, you don’t care about people outside our country.

Presumably you do care about the security of our country. The current situation in Gaza is barbaric. It is also massively destabilising to the Middle East. This fuels the risks of further fighting elsewhere and also breeds further terrorism. Ultimately, that could result in extremists attacking your country.

No, John Swinney can’t personally influence anything and, like all politicians, will have an eye on the political capital. But the more people who protest, the louder the opposition gets. This pressures others to try to end the violence.

The world generally becomes more peaceful and less dangerous overall. This makes our country safer.

And the intelligence we get from Israel? That’s not useful at all? Cause they’ll stop giving us intel on which Iranian agents are planning attacks on UK soil.

The most unstabilising force in the region is Iran and all its proxies. If you wanted peace in the region then you should be calling for the removal of the IRGC etc and for Hamas to be removed from power.

Lolapusht · 30/08/2025 17:52

Do you understand that when you say things like “we need to stop arming Israel…” that implies something to the reality of what we actually to provide Israel with?

The general interpretation of “arming” someone would reasonably be giving them a firearm ie a gun and some bullets. Providing them with a small percentage of components for 1 type of plane, some drone parts & military intelligence is not that. Oxfam even use this imagery in their campaign info in the link you provided.

A wee bit disingenuous methinks. Definitely suggest we’re sending bombs to Gaza which is absolutely not the case. I’m not sure everyone reading your comment would be aware of that…

are you referring to the English Flag? The English occupied, terrorised and murdered thousands of Scots over the years

The Scots regularly invaded England and did the same.

NotEnoughKnittingTime · 30/08/2025 18:00

ExtraOnions · 30/08/2025 14:32

The English did the same to large parts of Ireland…except they were murdering them well onto the 20th Century

Don't pretend you were the victim and absolutely did not profit from slavery and colonisation. Scots are only in union with England because they bankrupted themselves trying to colonise others. Funny how you sweep the Northern Ireland comment under the rug.

Where did they plant Ireland ?

Calling people “thick” because they don’t agree with you, sums up this country “agree with me, or I’ll throw insults around”

Google Plantation of Ulster by James VI. SNP likes to pretend that didn't happen.

The guy with the arc? Lost me there.

Showing empathy for a country that's having war waged on it is the sign of a government of a developed country. Running a country and having empathy for another aren't activities that are mutually exclusive.

Regardless of your politics.

YelloDaisy · 30/08/2025 18:06

There were Lowland Scots and Irish mercenaries fighting with the English against Scots. And Scots soldiers fighting in Ireland but why let the truth get in the way of a rant

Perhaps he should put more money into education. 😂

Edited

Well your point wasn’t really applicable to me when you used a quote that I never said and your point about using components instead of the finished product doesn’t change the outcome of what is being done to the Palestinian people so I don’t really know how to respond to you.

Yes.

You can do the research yourself. But the answer is yes.

Well, I said ‘when you say things like…’ which wasn’t actually quoting you.

My question was around the reasonable interpretation some, if not many, people may give to ‘arming Israel’ (again, not directly quoting you).

The death of civilians in any war is awful.

When people say things like we “need to stop arming XYZ…” the reasonable interpretation would be that “we” ie the UK are sending the guns/bombs that are responsible for those deaths. In some cases, depending on the surrounding g text, it may even read like all the arms are coming from us. I don’t think that’s right. Precision and clarity rather than suggestion and inference.

How many people have died in Scotland waiting for an ambulance to turn up?

No where near as many. Only a wilfully ignorant absolute numpty would think otherwise.

JaneJeffer · 30/08/2025 19:07

Well I never said all arms are coming from the U.K. and I also said I’m not in the U.K. so you have misinterpreted me @Lolapusht

I won’t be returning to the thread because MN isn’t working properly

Oh get a grip.

Our first minister can do hee-haw about Gaza.

He can do hee- haw about not much in fact.

Trying to kid on Scotland can do anything on a world stage is ridiculous. We are struggling in Scotland but he hopes no one looks as he points " over there".

sending components, intelligence, or support counts as ‘arming.’ It’s not just literal bombs- it’s helping sustain the military capacity that’s causing the deaths.
