Hello all, I’ve been made redundant and don’t intend to go back to work for the foreseeable future. I’ve been looking at my budget and was wondering how much personal spending money people usually allow themselves each month. I don’t mean bills or savings, just personal spending for yourself per week or month. Do you think £600-£1000 will be enough per month?

Only you know how much you spend.

Blueyshift · 29/08/2025 19:49

That is loads! You will be fine. People have way less.

FuzzyWolf · 29/08/2025 19:55

It depends what you feel you need to spend money on. There will be some people who get by without any personal budget each month and others who have tens of thousands. It’s all relative.

Blueyshift · 29/08/2025 19:56

How much do you have now?

TheBoomingVoiceofExperience · 29/08/2025 20:02

I have £200pcm just for me. I make it a game as to what I buy in each month. But I get small basics like deodorant in the main shop. Haircuts, dentist, skincare, clothes etc all come from the £200.

£600-1000 sounds like loads to me. I think you

will be fine! Sorry not sure what happened to my post! 😂

Is that what you will have for everything other than bills? So grocery, petrol and other car bills, entertainment, clothing, cosmetics, gifts, replacement appliances etc?

Its enough, you won't starve or go naked but it depends on the lifestyle you want to live. I'm sure you can make it work if you want to.

Well it sounds a lot to me but are you expecting to eat out several times a week/buy something designer to wear once a month/have fancy hair extensions or colouring regularly in which case you might struggle and need to cut back? Or is it more like a cup of coffee a couple of times a week and a magazine here and there?

SwirlingAroundSleep · 29/08/2025 20:18

After I have paid for all essentials, like the food, bills, childcare etc. and put £250 in savings I have £80 left for me this month (so £20 a week). If I need to for urgent things I’ll dip into savings but honestly my savings are really low and I’m trying desperately not to.

Reasontoreason · 29/08/2025 21:14

Thank you for your replies, Budget will no include food shop or petrol . But will include eating out the plan is it live of interest and not touch savings . But never not had an income coming in before . So probably over worrying

You must have a lot of savings if you are expecting to get £1000 a month interest!

My personal spending on just me is around £100 - £150 a month depending on whether its a haircut month. But takeaways etc come out of a different account, so it's hard to compare.
