What's the obsession with drag?

Why the obsession with men in dresses? I don't find them entertaining so wouldn't go to a drag show but I have friends who think the shows are really entertaining and have been to them.

I think they are poor quality and had their day. To be popped in the box alongside thinks such as the B&W minstrels, Love They neighbour (racist shows of the past) since they are just IMO men in women's face. AIBU?

YANBU - they are a relic of the past and we don't need to have men in women's face now

YABU - they are great fun.

I didn't used to have a problem with drag at all but since the attack on women's rights and the ridiculous belief that if you dress like a woman you are one and can now go into female changing rooms and watch nonconsenting women and girls undress I find it offensive.

I find the whole drag movement just a bit seedy and overly camp. Never remotely funny.

I've checked the email and it was from Lucy Marsh (Family Education Trust), I've no idea who they are but sounds like from an education website I've visited at some point. Right wing propaganda machine? What are you on about!

I don't believe everything I read. I asked a question as many others do on here. We all have differing views on things. Stir things up in what way exactly? How on earth can a simple AIBU thread on MN stir things up. Chill a bit and scroll by if it bothers you so much that someone might ask a question you don't like. 😂

Perhaps I was a bit too sensitive about it and I apologise. But getting wound up enough about drag to send an email like that to strangers feels very off to me, and my immediate thought is that this Lucy character is obviously out to cause trouble and demonise drag performers by sending this email out. It’s a slippery slope isn’t it really. It’s a scary world we’re living in where people can spread hate in this way.

to your other point though, the whole point of the AIBU forum on here is to set us women on each other to argue over things. MN know this and they promote it on purpose. I’ve got the AIBU threads hidden from my active conversations yet this still got through and I have no doubt it’s by design.

that said though, I’m sorry if I caused you to feel as though I was getting at you. I’m not at all, I’m just so sick of every day hearing of a new division being promoted. They’ve already come for the immigrants, the trans folk and those of different ethnic backgrounds, now they’re coming for the drag performers, then it’ll be the gays, and it’ll be us women next.
