For those who don’t know, it’s the new political party run by Jeremy Corbyn and Zarah Sultana.

Ideologically I'm right there with them ✊ but I don't think they'll get far, unfortunately.

rubicustellitall · 26/08/2025 10:49

Not a lot to be honest. I don't think it will go very far

Needmorelego · 26/08/2025 10:50

I know zero about what their politics will be but I love the name Zarah Sultana 😁

brieandcrackers · 26/08/2025 10:57

I’m hopeful - I respect them both as politicians and agree that many lefties no longer have a home within the current Labour Party. Seems to be a lot of initial interest which is good!

However as a nation we’re not great with change so don’t see them winning a GE anytime soon, though would settle for some form of coalition (would love Green x YP but aware my glasses are extremely rose-tinted there 😁most likely would be Lab x YP if it went that way)

Yeah, they have had over 600,000 people sign-up the last time I checked.

I agree. I am so hopeful, but I doubt they’ll get very far, especially so early on.

Ah the new antisemite party! Hopefully they'll further dilute the left vote.

BalladOfBarryAndFreda · 26/08/2025 11:42

What do I think?

I think it's monumentally stupid to attempt to divide the Left vote any further at this point in time.

Thelnebriati · 26/08/2025 11:44

IDK. It might be useful for the Omnicause lot to have a place to go, and maybe then we can rebuild a credible left wing party from the ground up.

smallglassbottle · 26/08/2025 11:46

I think they're just being silly, but I agree that she has a great name 😄

Upstartled · 26/08/2025 11:48

Well, we know that a third of Labour members have declared an interest in shifting alliegence should Your Party (have they even settled on a name yet?) get up and running. I'm not sure how much appetite that there will be in the general population but even a small amount of interest would be a blow to Labour and their ever dwindling popularity.

Corbyn and Sultana have already had their first public scrap, so it's too early to be hopeful.

Badbadbunny · 26/08/2025 11:49

The hapless Corbyn couldn't win a GE when he was leader of the Labour party, so he'll not have a hope in hell's chance of getting anyway with a spin off party.

Only good thing is that it may split the Labour vote a little so Starmer/Raynor/Reeves will be consigned to the history books at the next GE. (Realistically, they already are, but Corbyn's new party will be the nail in their coffin!).

In what respect are they anti-semetic?

Badbadbunny · 26/08/2025 11:50

What really matters is whether the unions will move over to Corbyn or stay with Starmer, as we all know, it's the unions who run the Labour party!

I would have agreed with this for many years, but I no longer think Labour are a left wing party.

DryAndBalmy · 26/08/2025 11:54

I’ll never forgive or forget ‘Our friends in Hamas and Hezbolah’.

If he takes 20% of the Labour vote that makes it more likely that Reform will get in.

He’s a dangerous idiot.

Cherrycola4 · 26/08/2025 11:55

They’ve given me some hope back after being very disappointed with Labour/Starmer.

JazzyJelly · 26/08/2025 11:57

I naturally lean towards Corbyn's sort of politics and was a Labour Party member under him.

I do think the 'Corbyn can't win' argument is a bit unfair - he got more votes when he lost to Johnson than Starmer got when he won against Sunak (10,269,051 Vs 9,708,716).

Unfortunately I can't vote for any party which will deny women rights, otherwise I'd be looking at joining. Sultana is big on TWAW. I imagine Corbyn thinks there are more important matters.

ZoomyMoon · 26/08/2025 11:50

50% of its MPs have been suspended from their party for antisemitism and the the other 50% should have been.

Well, we know that a third of Labour members have declared an interest in shifting allegiance should Your Party (have they even settled on a name yet?) get up and running
The thing is Labour members ( and the members of all parties) are the more radical group. They do not represent the views of the electorate. They are unlikely to get anywhere because the people who would vote for them (and Labour members) are on the further Left anyway and there aren't enough of them to elect enough MP's. That is without the fissures already appearing between Corbyn and Sultana, who haven't really done anything at all apart from criticise each other since they announced this project. Plus the uneasy alliance between the Radical Left and hardline Political Islam. That hasn't worked out well in the past.

In order to win under our system you need breadth of support, not depth, which is what Corbyn had. He spoke to his supporters and got more people who lived in areas and groups likely to be sympathetic to him to vote when they may not have bothered before ( in safe Labour seats for eg) but didn't bother engaging with people who were sceptical or didnt agree with him. You have to work with the system you are in , not the system you would like to have (although has JC said anything about the electoral system? Does he even care about UK politics?)

Yes, all those things. I agree. But even the smallest of shifts from Labour to Your Party -as little as three percent - might be significant in delivering a Reform government and a Tory opposition.

Gun, meet foot.

Not a hope - the unions want influence and they're not going to get that from a small splinter party

Corbyn going aginst what was his own party is nothing new - he did it hundreds of times before becoming leader - but as a way to split the Labour vote this is as good as any
