Media trying to make people into celebrities

There seems to be a push with certain people to make them celebrities, make them 'happen'. (I'm not here talking about reality people)

I noticed it with Ore Oduba after he won Strictly, when he was on everything and now we don't see much of him at all.

For example the actress Emma Corrin, who I have never seen act in anything but came to my notice in the papers years ago when she joined the Crown (still not watched that) but she's in the Daily Mail all the time, trying to make her a 'star'. I can't imagine she's on anybody's radar, correct me if I am wrong.

Now it is the traffic reporter from Scott Mills' breakfast show, Ellie Brennan who seems to be on everything and getting a lot of exposure.

In fairness to Emma Corrin, she has been in a few big films, even the main Antagonist in Deadpool and Wolverine, (And was terrifying in it!) so, she may not be on your usual radar, but she has some excellent acting chops.

Emma Corrin is pretty famous. Playing Diana in The Crown got her a Golden Globe and Emmy nominations, and she had various award nominations for theatre roles, then came out as non-binary, did some runway modelling and was in some high profile Marvel nonsense and Nosferatu. And I think she went out with Rami Malek, and has been cast as Elizabeth Bennet in a new Pride and Prejudice adaptation. I don’t think some tabloid is trying to ‘make her a star’. She is pretty high-profile and likely to become more so.

The others are surely just people trying to parlay a career out of Strictly, or expand beyond being a weather presenter?

I don't mind so much if they've displayed some talent/ability in things like that, but what I find really annoying is the TikTok 'stars' (I use that word loosely) or Love Island type characters who get forced on us, despite having no discernible skill or talent whatsoever.

For example, a few weeks ago, there were loads of stories in the papers about someone they were calling the 'Ibiza final boss' - just some random guy with a bad haircut. Now he seems to be popping up everywhere.

Why we still exist in a society that makes stupid people famous, I have no idea.

This 😂😂

A main role in a 1.3 billion dollar marvel movie means she probably doesn't need a huge push from the daily Mail

Might have to watch her then!

I think that the DM pushes EC because she played Princess Diana and because she identifies as non-binary. Photos of a non-binary celebrity looking feminine or masculine are good clickbait for a comments section and ripe for being retweeted on social media.

She’s very good in The Crown, though the issue there is that it made the vast majority of its characters considered more thoughtful, human and attractive than the real-life figures on whom they’re based. Her Diana is rather less of a dingbat than the actual Diana.
