To side with DNiece because SIL has lost the plot!

SIL is having a gender reveal later on. I hate the things but have kept my feelings to myself on this one.

This is her 3rd and final baby - DNiece is 11, DNephew is 18 months.

SIL (who isn’t usually this barking) has bought DNiece a pink dress to wear and DNiece is point blank refusing. DB and DNephew are wearing blue, fairly casual clothes.

SIL is crying and kicking off that DNiece is spoiling the whole thing! WTF?! I have told SIL she should just let DNiece wear what she wants! It didn’t go down well …

My brother is very laid back and tends to go along with SIL. But not when it’s something DNiece is justifiably upset about. He’s actually pretty mortified and keeps looking at me and shrugging! Total shit show. Think I’m going to open a bottle of wine!

They’ll be one already open

and he needs to parent the hell up

MissHollysDolly · 25/08/2025 19:58

Well done for standing up for your niece

arcticpandas · 25/08/2025 20:01

Tell DN that she ought to charge her mother if she wants her to dress up for her SM pics. For 20£ she might have put on a dress for an hour.
Never been to a gender reveal. Been invited to two but said I don't really care if it's a boy or a girl anymore than I cared for my dc being boys or girls. As long as they're healthy all is well.

You will need some with that SIL. Gender reveal and pink dress 🤮

mumofoneAloneandwell · 25/08/2025 20:04

Couldn't she do a pink outfit? Like pink joggers or a suit? At 11, this isnt worth the fight

But I feel for the sil, if she has had fertility struggles

tripleginandtonic · 25/08/2025 20:06

It wint kill her dd to wear a pink for a few hours. I think yabu to get involved.

At that age my.daughter didn't even own anything pink and would have been.horrified to be told to wear a dress.

Penzancepirate · 25/08/2025 20:11

Ah, I think SIL was just excited and wanted nice photos. Hopefully she’ll look back and see she was being ridiculous. We all get it wrong sometimes.

Also, a pink t-shirt might have been a better bet 😅

Thankfully at their house!! Her mum (DNiece’s grandma) is now trying to make SIL see reason!! Must be pregnancy hormones because she’s honestly not usually completely insane!

Just buy the kid a pink t shirt to wear with shorts

GreenFlag · 25/08/2025 20:26

She’s turning her family into a circus sideshow. DN is the only reasonable one out of the lot!

So 8pm, and still no reveal??!!
I can't believe you've waited until now to open the wine!!

whynotwhatknot · 25/08/2025 20:35

wtf is it with these stupid reveals its either a boy or a girl and noone else gives a shit

her poor dc

chillidoritto · 25/08/2025 21:15

Apologies I’ve had more than a few wines! Don’t worry I have a babysitter!

After much tension and everyone assuming SIL was just tired / emotional - they finally popped the balloon and it’s another boy!

SIL seems a little too happy at this news than I was comfortable with! First thing DB did was go to DNiece to make sure she was ok - she’s actually quite happy it’s another baby brother!

What a performance though! SIL is saying how much she’s loved being a “boy mum” which I’m not a fan of.

DNiece did say to her dad “I bet mums glad it’s another boy” …

poor girl=your sil doesnt sound very nice

momtoboys · 25/08/2025 21:24

I was hoping this gender reveal ridiculousness had died down. Please let it be a passing phase before my sons have children.

Sweetmelonff · 26/08/2025 06:06

Bloody hell
these families

OP tapping away in the corner on a mumsnet thread she’s started about your SIL in the midst of a family party

the pregnant SIL having a hissy fit with her pre teen

the hapless DB pathetically trying to stick up for his daughter and shrugging pathetically at his sister across the room

and young overtired kids around arguing adults waiting for a “gender reveal” 🤢 party

and now all the adults have probably woken up with horrific hangovers

depressing

PollyBell · 26/08/2025 06:16

I would ask the SIL is she only having a third for a gender reveal party?

VashtaNerada · 26/08/2025 06:18

Yuck. SIL sounds like a sexist arsehole. Hopefully you and DB can support all three children to be themselves without resorting to gender stereotypes.

Really? Just to create more drama and silliness

What a shame. Your poor DN. Her mum sounds horrible.

chillidoritto · 26/08/2025 14:21

I was saying to DH in the car home today, what a shit show it all was. DB was taking DNiece out today which is nice for them both - get away from mad woman!

The irony is, before she had her DS, boys were a complete nightmare (I have 4 boys as well as an older DD). When he was born she was saying omg how do I deal with a boy!!

Painful. And I agree with everyone else who said gender reveals are crap!
