AIBU? Will I go blind

MummaHud · 25/08/2025 04:41

I put toothpaste on my spot on my forehead, I get married in 2 days and it’s the only thing that dries it out- I got it bed and I started moving around and rubbed my face.

BAMMMMM immediate stinging to my eye, after about a minute or two it stopped burning, now my eye is dry and red but other symptoms.

im worried im going to go blind, we are in Spain so cant see someone quickly. Im so annoyed with myself :( and im panicking like crazy

Do you really think they'd sell something - that you put in your mouth - that was so bad for you? Calm down, take a deep breath, and enjoy your wedding! :)

Genuinely thought this was going to be about wanking.

It is!

DollopOfFun · 25/08/2025 21:38

Of course you won't go blind, you only got it in one eye.

Half blind maybe.

Rufusroo · 25/08/2025 21:40

Put a wet paper towel on it. Cures everything

Now that's funny 😂

No you wont but this is something that you could have asked ChatGpt and not posted on mumsnet about. Much quicker

Imlyingandthatsthetruth · 25/08/2025 22:10

Coincidentally I managed to get KY Jelly in my ear. Will I go deaf?

BMW6 · 25/08/2025 22:11

Absolutely honestly OP, this stuff is tested to the max including any risk of blinding should you inadvertently squirt a load into your eye!

Calm yourself, I'm sure it's stinging but you will not be blinded by it

Franjipanl8r · 25/08/2025 22:18

It’s toothpaste not corrosive acid!

youalright · 25/08/2025 22:34

Im afraid to say you will go blind it happened to my neighbours cousins friends dads bosses goldfish adoptive parents 3rd cousin its been really hard for him he now wears an eyepatch and we call him patchy.

Oh sweet Jesus. Just wash your eye out. You’re fine.

You still have the other eye.

No need for anyone to be mean. We’re all capable of being irrational at times. Being abroad and about to get married can make you feel under pressure, and being under pressure can easily reduce your ability to think clearly and logically.

OP you are not going to go blind. Rinse the eye thoroughly. Try not to rub it as that will make it more red and sore. Having it closed all night while you sleep will be the best thing for it. Stop worrying and enjoy your wedding. Congratulations.

This is a great answer. I’m really a bit fed up of the ‘oh you couldn’t work that out for yourself?’ type of answer everywhere on here. People panic. We reassure them. Next week someone else will panic. That’s fine, that’s life.

Your eye will be sore, and you’ll be fine.

However, extra points go to @Bumcake, @youalright and @DollopOfFun 🤣😂🤣

🤣

That’s the answer this ridiculous question deserves!

Tablesandchairs23 · 26/08/2025 09:13

Please tell me your not that thick.

Blanknotebook · 26/08/2025 10:18

You won’t go blind. Just rinse it out. The pharmacists in Spain are usually very helpful. Pop along to the nearest pharmacy and ask for advice if you are worried.

Dogaredabomb · 25/08/2025 06:25

Don't worry, only wanking turns you blind.

That's why a lot of people wear glasses these days - they had the foresight to stop before the inevitable happened...👀

WonderingWanda · 26/08/2025 10:41

As everyone said it will be fine. I've got all sorts of things in my eye that probably could make you go blind including bleach (never spray the ceiling with mould and mildew remover because a) it will go in your eye and b) it will wreck your lovely new top) and after a quick wash out they have survived. The most painful think was when I had chopped chilli's and then rubbed my eyes....had to wash them with milk to stop the burning sensation.

Eightdayz · 26/08/2025 10:53

Kindly. This level of anxiety is not normal.

Zanzara · 25/08/2025 06:25

This is not the thread I thought it was going to be.

Not what I thought either.
How disappointing that it's only about toothpaste.

If there's been wanking going on along with getting toothpaste in the eye that's a more serious matter and yeah, you'll definitely go blind.

Tinkerbel64 · 26/08/2025 13:43

Call in the chemist I'm sure they can help you maybe something to wash your eye out & some eye cream good luck lovely

MummaHud · 29/08/2025 05:05

its taken me a while to reply as I didn’t have access to WIFI or 3G and thank god I didn’t as these messages are very unkind..

to provide an update; after I posted this my eye kept burning, on and off, extreme agony pain and when I noticed my vision started to feel blurry I went to see a pharmacist, they straight away sent me to an English speaking ophthalmologist.

it has caused me to have a corneal ulcer due to chemical burns and I need to see my optician when we get back to England, but was advised to do this asap so we’ve cut our wedding holiday short..

a nice pink eye on my wedding day, slight blurred vision & I am anxious about it.

I was told the type of tooth paste matters and the one I was using, the whitening one has much more chemicals that are extremely dangerous to the eye and I probably got a pea size worth into my eye
