To think they’re charged their number?

I haven’t spoken to my sister for 5 months. I tried to call today and it went straight to voicemail “welcome to the O2 messaging service, the person you’ve called is unavailable, leave a message”

I have a new number (my phone was stolen a few weeks back) so I’m not blocked. She’s also not someone who ever has her phone off.

I’ve tried yesterday and today with the same result.

Sounds like it.

Do you have her on social media and could contact her that way?

Unfortunately not, she’s never had any form of social media. Not even Facebook back in the day.

Probably.

Or maybe she's lost it.

KatyaKat · 24/08/2025 22:28

Edited as re-read and saw it goes straight to VM.

Why haven't you spoken in a while, is that typical?

AnnaQuayInTheUk · 24/08/2025 22:28

Do you have any other family members who could contact her for you?

I never answer the phone to unknown callers. I figure if it's someone who really needs to speak to me then they'll leave a message

Laura95167 · 24/08/2025 22:29

Is she not ignoring it because its an unknown number? Id do that and I wouldnt listen to my voice mail either. Id assume it was a scam

ScurryfungeSpuddle · 24/08/2025 22:29

That's a good point about her not recognising your number.

Have you sent her a text to let her know it's you?

Catname · 24/08/2025 22:29

More likely she’s changed provider and not personalised her greeting as pp mentioned.

Feenduvetcover · 24/08/2025 22:30

My phone automatically sends unknown numbers straight to voicemail.

did you leave a message?

It doesn’t even ring, not even once. Just straight to voicemail.

That’s exactly what my phone does with unknown numbers. It’s an iPhone.

xanthic · 24/08/2025 22:35

You might not be the only person who had their phone stolen... As you don't speak often, it's possible she didn't think to get in touch to tell you.

whatseriesnext · 24/08/2025 22:43

I’m even more confused as according to Google it would say “number is no longer in service” there wouldn’t be an active voicemail to route the call to.

If you’ve changed your number, then to her phone you’re an unknown number because you’re not a contact in her phone.

my phone routes those direct to voicemail.

did you leave a message?

That's spam detection at work, my phone does that with potentially suspicious unknown numbers. Either text/WhatsApp her from your new number or reach out on social media or ask a friend or relative to give her your new number.

malmi · 24/08/2025 22:46

Having your phone stolen doesn’t mean you have to change your number.

CallMeFlo · 24/08/2025 22:48

If shed changed her number it would say the number is no longer in service or something similar. The fact its going to voicemail means its still active.

She might have it on do not disturb or as pp said shes not accepting unknown numbers.

Have you tried WhatsApp or texting

Sleepeazie · 24/08/2025 22:48

I’ve got unknown numbers blocked. It’d never ring my end, and always go to a missed call. I only reply if a voicemail indicates it’s warranted

😂 and this adds to the thread how?

I’m telling you facts. Why even argue one that’s so irrelevant?

I’ve explained a few times what might have happened.

I think she was trying to help you by pointing this out. You still could get your old number back if that’s helpful.

In the meantime do text your sister your new number and see what happens. Good luck!

I completely get not answering unknown numbers, I tend not to do that either.

But not to listen to any voicemail that was then left - that’s a bit odd IMO. Yes, it might be a spam voicemail, in which case you just delete it and block the number - but it could actually be something important, hence the voicemail being left for you!

OP, if you haven’t already done so, I would leave a voicemail and/or send a text message.

I bet she's set her phone up to divert all unknown numbers to voicemail

Im just saying I dont listen to then unless I see a missed call from someone I know.

If I miss a call from "parents" and theres a voicemail Id listen.

I can understand why people do but I personally think the same as I do about cold callers at the front door
