Minecraft best way to play?

HelloSunshine100 · 24/08/2025 16:03

Minecraft…looking at buying the game for 7 year old birthday. His parents don’t want him playing on phone or iPad. What’s the best way to play it on the tv? Do you need Nintendo or PlayStation etc? Literally no clue
how you set it up or how to put video games on tv
please help!

Mine play on the Xbox and the switch.

What games console do they have?

RhaenysRocks · 24/08/2025 20:14

DD plays on her laptop. There are numerous different versions..start with Bedrock. Get him to play in creative mode rather than survival. A note...any items you pay for will attach to his account but any worlds he builds only live on the device unless you save them elsewhere too..DD has lost several over the years with devices dying etc so she's more clued up now. Upload the files to a cloud account / one drive or similar.

It’s good on the switch as you then have the handheld option as well. But if they feel that’s too much like a tablet maybe they don’t want that anyway, in which case any games console you can buy it for is as good as any other I’d say. It’s also good on pc, but if he controls on the switch are easier so might be better for a younger player.

NuovaPilbeam · 24/08/2025 20:17

On a pc.

Tablets, nintendo and phones imho are all more addictive. If his parents don't want phones or tablets that is reasonable, and they won't want nintendo either.

NuovaPilbeam · 24/08/2025 20:18

You can use a nintendo on the tv as well but I think PC is better.

I and my dgs play on the Xbox. DGS plays mainly on creative and he can build some incredible buildings

I play with my kids and we use BSL shaders — they make everything smoother and prettier without messing up performance too much. Makes exploring caves and building stuff feel way more fun and detailed. My 10-year-old loves how the water and sky look with them on. We just added them after setting up Optifine and didn’t need any extra mods beyond that.

EmberSill · 02/04/2026 13:18

I’ve been mixing different boss fights and building tools lately, and grabbing mods on ModsCraft made it way easier to test out new ideas without hunting around different sites. The Editor Wands were a lifesaver for quick builds, and the Marcelich Boss ran smoothly even on my older device. If you’re jumping between versions or genres, the sorting filters save a ton of time.

MammaTill2Pojkar · 02/04/2026 17:22

You can buy it for PC, we have it for our sons, we use Java as there are no paid for extras and we have modded it so they can both play together on the same game and absolutely 0 worries about playing with strangers (LAN local only connection). I would say don't touch bedrock version with a bargepole!

gamerchick · 06/04/2026 16:40

Probably would be easier if you found out/told us, what platform they're allowed on OP.

Kd96 · 06/04/2026 17:13

Sounds as though the parents may not want the child to have it at all. Would probably clarify before spending any money.

MayBabyMum · 06/04/2026 17:25

Or... Instead of staring at a screen you could get them a den building kit and they could go outside and play Minecraft irl

Diabloplayer · 06/04/2026 18:11

Did you know you can buy small magnetic Minecraft blocs (Google it) that can be used to build things in real life? My grandson loves them.

Emmz1510 · 07/04/2026 08:36

I wouldn’t be buying a video game for a child whose parents aren’t into him using screens, to be honest. Unless I knew for sure he had a console or gaming PC, I’d choose a different gift.
