Ergonomic design - meaningless?

Im frequently wrong about a lot of things so this may be yet another, but what is 'ergonomic design' meant to mean or be about? I see it on so many things

I thought it was about how a product is designed or suitable to make it easy to use or comfortable to use, particularly for those with disabilities.

But I bought these yesterday, not the pink ones, the green ones in the store. Last set, I got lucky. Unfortunately yet another purchase that strictly speaking I didnt 'need' but I convinced myself I did! They are lovely

But on the label it says 'ergonomic design'. What can this possibly mean in respect of these bowls, they dont even have a handle!!

I don’t know why they are ergonomic, but I really want them.

Well yes. This is where I found myself yesterday.

Went in for presents for someones birthday

Spent a lot of time looking at these

Got some presents

Didnt buy the bowls, because I am sensible you see? I can be sensible

Had massive bowl regret back at home

Went back out to get the bowls.

The only thing that is saving me from buying them is that I would “need” them in blue.

So wrong colour so definitely no good for you

It may also help to know that being tkmaxx, their goods always look like they've fallen off a lorry somewhere and some of the plastic lids are a bit scuffed, Im going to have to pretend to myself they were pristine when I bought them and then my OH has clumsily done this.

It may also help further to know there is not one jot of instructions on the bowls as to whether they are dishwasher or microwave safe. They are BPA safe though.

I wouldnt put them in either necessarily but it would have helped to know.

Definitely no good to me…absolutely definitely….

My DH has an ergonomic keyboard which is shaped sort of in a curve to follow the form of your palms. He couldn't manage without it.
I don't think the same applies to your lovely bowls, though. I'd be very happy to receive those as a gift.

Manufacturers put strange claims on stuff. One which puzzles me is on a bottle of Viakal. "Removes up to 99.9% of limescale". 🤔 How can you even judge that?

Am I being blind? Where does it say ergonomic design?

OP said it was on the label in her post.

They have the 3d design on so you can grip them more easily to open the lids would be my guess.
And to generally grip/hold them if doing something like vigorously beating eggs.
Maybe it's nice flexible plastic used to make the lids so it's not too fiddly to take them off.

That sounds a bit of a reach to be honest but ok, I'll take it.

Why is it I now think I want the pink set as well.

Ergonomic just means something is designed for comfort and efficiency - or at least it used to. I agree that it tends to be a label that is slapped on random products these days.

I would consider this mixing bowl ergonomic because it has a handle, thick lip, spout, anti-slip rubber feet, and is also microwave and dishwasher safe: https://www.ikea.com/gb/en/p/ponnyfisk-mixing-bowl-light-grey-blue-90598491/
