To leave lovely school Hours job for full time wfh job

I have a lovely school hours job 9-3, local, wfh two days a week and extra wfh days if dc are unwell. School holidays are still a juggle (single mum no ex dh help). Pay is mid range.

i have been offered a full time 9-5.30pm completely remote position. It pays £200 more a month which would be nice, and I do prefer my work from home days.

But I also love finishing work at 3pm, especially in school holidays. Dc are 11 and 14, I’m not sure what to do!

both jobs are accounts admin so similar type of work. Pay difference I guess would mean the difference between a budget uk holiday each or an abroad holiday which is a rare treat for us (if my parents treat us.

I enjoy current job if that makes any difference.

You do need solid childcare arrangements in the school holidays when WFH. It’s better to have the kids out of the house completely whilst you are working. Can you arrange/afford that? Would it wipe out your extra income?

I really think you could regret it. You may miss your current role/hours. I wfh full time and would love to finish earlier for less pay.

Stick with the school hours job. That post-school availability is really valuable!

Ask for a pay rise. Worst they can say is no?

I’d probably have to go full-time probably not working from home when the kids are a bit older
You have enjoyed the school hours whilst the kids have been growing up, but you’re probably ready for a bit more of a challenge as they are relying on you less and less

I was surprised by how much I was needed during the teen years.

Mine went off the rails and I was constantly being phoned by the secondary school at one minute past 3 every day. Had I been FT I would either have been sacked or self combusted. My school-day hours were a definite saving grace.

Not saying your kids are going to cause you any grief, but it can be a trying few years.

Createausername1970 I agree, I've spent more time dealing with senior schools than I expected!

Also DD1 swings between needing to off load about the various teen dramas, 'unfair' school rules etc to grunting and slamming doors! Much easier if you are pottering about, cooking dinner, chatting than making a huge deal about it.

I'm also chauffer for after school activities, and it's much less stressful.

I guess I was thinking I should be working towards full time now, but it didn’t feel worth it for basically what would be £10 extra a day after deductions. I think because I would have to take a lunch hour it stretches the day out for not much extra money. At the moment I work 30 hours 9-3
