And questions you have been asked recently?

DH has been looking for a better job for a while and not having much luck - tomorrow he has an interview for a job he really really wants and he is nervous because he doesn’t think he’s very good at interviews.

Shameless post for traffic - we are prepping this evening! 😬

I know it sounds crazy, but I have interviewed people who blatantly hadn’t even bothered to read the job description. So make sure you read up on the role and also the organisation. It’s easy to tell which candidates have and haven’t done this.

i worked in recruitment for a while in a few industries. I always recommend giving answers which have a situation a behaviour and an outcome. So what happened then what you did and then what happened as a result of your actions. It’s call SBO - situation behaviour outcome.

Be nice and polite to everyone - you'd be amazed how many people aren't.
Smile!

Be positive. No slagging his last job for example

Listen – Don’t rush your response. Pause if needed to think before speaking.

Stay concise – Keep answers focused and avoid rambling.

Use STAR examples – Prepare a few (Situation, Task, Action, Result) to clearly show your skills.

Don’t exaggerate - I recently interviewed someone who lied about their technical ability. I’d much rather hire someone honest who shows a genuine willingness to learn.

Ask questions – End with 1–2 questions about the role or ask why the interviewer enjoys working there. Good luck!

Read up on the company and have some questions written down, and refer to that list in your notebook if you get stuck.
A good question I always finish on that I always get good feedback for is: ‘What is your ideal candidate for the role?’ And when they answer, relay back to them with why you are that person by addressing specific points they say and giving examples back. It ends the interview with you confirming why you are exactly what they’re looking for.

for me dont oversell your skills. always offer to help but never claim you can do x easy etc
be a team player eg when they say your asked to help in x team even though your role is with b team etc

thats my reasoning on the skills part. i am always honest about my skills because if they say eg heres a one time code pad prove your skills etc

Use ChatGPT. Drop the job description into it and ask it for a set of interview questions and answers.

Use ChatGPT. Drop the job description into it and ask it for a set of interview questions and answers.

but ask it to generate them 3/4 times so its not a direct copy or generation

He got the job 🥳🥳

I’m so pleased for him he’s been looking for ages…and pleased for me that we’re going to be up £400/month!

If you went through an agency check they have your up to date CV! I had an agent once who would edit my cv unhelpfully before sending it out. Caused me all sorts of aggro.

Largeherbivore · 21/08/2025 18:26

Congratulations Husband

Also never spray perfume on the front of your neck. It contains alcohol which is drying.
