Another mini roundabout who was in the right one

At a small, busy roundabout coming out of town this morning. I was taking the first exit. Looking to my right car one was indicating right, car two (a Ford Ranger type thing) behind it indicating left. As soon as car one started turning right, giving me the space to manoeuvre I pulled out, only to be beeped at loudly by car two who had decided to go straight ahead instead. He then (was a man driving) tailgated me for around a quarter of a mile before doubling back on another mini roundabout.

Was I the unreasonable one to have started moving when I did? Should I have waited to make sure that car two was definitely going left?

Did you check to your right before moving? Was he already on the roundabout having followed the vehicle turning right?

You can’t and shouldn’t rely upon an indicator because they can have been left on from previous turns etc so you probably should have waited and just made sure he was going where you assumed he was.

However, there’s no justification for him tailgating you or acting aggressively on the road at all, especially since he was the one displaying a misleading signal!

Was he still indicating left when you started moving? Because by the time the first car had gone past you, the second car must have been at the front and ready to move? I’m surprised he hadn’t already started moving by the time the first car had gone past you to give you the space to move.

Even on a mini roundabout you give way to your right.

Regardless of which way they're indicating, you NEVER pull out until you've checked which way someone is actually going. Had they hit you, you'd have been at fault.

A bit of co-operation and quid pro quo is required on mini-roundabouts, particularly when all cars arrive at the same time and all are required to give way to the right. Correct indication is certainly helpful!

Yes, car two was indicating and angled to the left when I started moving.

I normally do wait but I suppose split second decisions like this are what lead to many accidents.

Edited

He was still indicating and angled left.
