Just a gentle reminder that it's only 4 pay days away

...For most people.
This is for the folk who say it's only August , but at the same time are surprised to find that Christmas has just crept up on them.
Also, spare a thought for those poor January born children who will have a lifetime of not being celebrated as much as because people are always too disorganised skint on their birthdays .
No excuses 🫵 😠.

January birthdays are shit. This is a fact.

Not as bad as Xmas birthdays my son wss born on Boxing day.

IHaveRunOutOfIdeas · 19/08/2025 18:43

I have just sent the DC a text asking what they want for Christmas. All of them have birthdays between now and then too! (Sept, Oct and Dec-which has always been a poor result in comparison by her dads side of the family)

I need ideas for mums advent stocking if anyone has any?! 24 little gifts, as cheap as possible! I have 2 alcohols miniatures so far, she is mid 70s, loves shopping but has everything she needs, wants and doesn’t want 😂

Needhelp101 · 19/08/2025 18:48

I strongly urge anyone struggling to only do 'childrens' presents'. My family brought this in a few years ago and it makes it incredibly simple and much cheaper.

Consumables for your mum. Candles, really good chocolate, unusual sweets, lovely body scrub/cream.... things like that. Love stuff that I don't have to keep, but that will make the days after Christmas and New Year (you know, those slump days) a bit nicer.

And thanks for the reminder OP, I really need to get cracking (big family, lots of presents to buy!)

Catsandcannedbeans · 19/08/2025 18:51

I buy through the year - which sounds super organised… but the week before I’m running round like a crazy person with DH showering the house for where we put it all. You can’t win.

mumofoneAloneandwell · 19/08/2025 18:53

Super ready for September

The countdown begins 🎄🥰🎄❤️

ErrolTheDragon · 19/08/2025 18:56

January first isn’t a bad birthday - it’s always a holiday, and if you’re into partying you can just start early.

MapWall · 19/08/2025 18:56

I misread and thought I was getting paid in four days😭

Arlanymor · 19/08/2025 18:57

Doingtheboxerbeat · 19/08/2025 18:37

But then you have to wait a trillion years to be paid at the end of January if this is the case.
Like I said, most people.

But that was my point, I think most people have five paydays, not four!

Dublassie · 19/08/2025 18:58

It's one day and a roast dinner .
I am THRILLED that we are all heading to the Dolomites for Christmas and will avoid all the nonsense .

RedNine · 19/08/2025 18:59

Why a gentle reminder? What's wrong with a normal one?

DongDingBell · 19/08/2025 19:00

5 days days for me, 4 pay days for DH.
So I make Christmas 9 pay days away 🤣🤣

I get paid on the 15th as do loads of people I know.

Lucky you. I hope you have a great time.

AintNoPunshineWhenShesGone · 19/08/2025 19:02

Mind you, my DH still gets paid weekly! 😲

I hope that never changes as it's been a lifesaver in the past.

FuckoffeeBeforeCoffee · 19/08/2025 19:05

I have a January birthday and it’s absolutely shite. I don’t bother trying to organise anything now, I will just be let down.

Great, you have 4 times as long as the op to prepare.

My friend's birthday is 5 days before mine and we go out for a joint birthday meal. It's something to look forward to while enduring the Christmas crap and the build up to it.

Katemax82 · 19/08/2025 18:08

Well thats a hard pill to swallow!

I read this as "well that's a hard pillow" and thought there's a new idiom that I'd never heard before. 🙈🙈

privatenonamegiven · 19/08/2025 19:10

Try having a birthday at Christmas - that really is sh*tty. Got plenty of joint birthday and Christmas presents...but yes January isn't great either.

Elle771 · 19/08/2025 19:10

Doingtheboxerbeat · 19/08/2025 18:11

Thank you 😊. I only mentioned it to my friend the other day when she was complaining about the Christmas merchandise in B&M and she said she hadn't thought of it like that.

I'm one of these weirdos who is actually looking forward to having christmas stuff in shops soon just so I can spread the costs across the next 4 months a bit 😅😅🙈🙈

wominzy · 19/08/2025 19:13

@IHaveRunOutOfIdeas Oh god you made me laugh a bit there about the tiny pressies for Mum. That's a lovely idea, although I'm not the best at present buying since the adults in our families don't exchange and I give cash to the rest (or to their parents for the kiddies). AND we leg it out of Blighty mid December and back mid January, enjoying the sun somewhere nice. Retired and deserve it I say!

Anyway, here are some ideas for little gifts for Advent stocking for Mum -

Funny eggcup
Shot glass
Free from a neighbour's garden -be quick! small dried lavender bunch tied with ribbon saved from something else.
Packet of tissues (lol) for the colds and sniffles
Packet of paracetemol - same
Mini kit kat or similar
Candle
Long handled battery lighter (for said candle when it gets low in the holder..)
LED light that attaches to a key ring, so she can find the keyhole after drinking the shots
Hand bag size puzzle book to ward off dementia
Diary - to help remember, see above
Chain or cord for spectacles
Light up earrings for Christmas Day
Santa Hat

Well that's a start... 😂

SunnyPrague · 19/08/2025 19:13

I’m a budgeting nerd. I save £x per month in a separate account to pay for Christmas. It’s really comforting to know that you’ve got the money set aside to do it.

Gettingbysomehow · 19/08/2025 19:15

Go away. Im cancelling everyone who says the C word in August 😐
