To ask about lumps

I’ve been around for years, but name changed for this. I had a monthly check in with my GP because I have some serious health issues and. It’s usually by phone, but today I physically went in. Since I was there, I finally remembered (memory problems) to tell the doctor I had a lump in my armpit. She started to feel it, it was a bit sore, and then she kept trying to find “the end of it.” It turns out it’s about 5cm long and taking up quite a lot of the right side of my right breast. I’m now on the two-week pathway.

AIBU to ask: have you ever had a lump that big, that was sore, and it turned out not to be cancer? I’ve told two people so far, and they both said it doesn’t hurt if it’s cancer, so that seems a hopeful sign. Should I take it as a good sign that it’s sore? And maybe it’s a good sign that it’s that big? More likely to be something fibrous?

My fear is compounded a bit by the fact that I just don’t think my body can handle any surgery at all.

I’m sorry to hear you’re going through this, it must be very worrying. I hope you get seen soon.

My cancer lump was completely painless. Hard to the touch, a bit knotty. Not huge but detectable which was lucky as I was too young for mammograms. All gone now. Surgery was the easiest part!

Best wishes xx
