How much to power wash drive - am I being a Scrooge (pic included)

I’ve been getting quotes for someone to deweed and power wash my drive. And
put down some strong weed killer. The weeds are quite bad. I have been quoted from £140 o £300. My neighbours say that’s normal as handy men/gardeners are very busy in our area right now as the town has become very popular with young families who are all renovating older homes that have been lived in by “boomers”

drive is this size with a little alley way for bins

am I just being tight?

I'd say £140 is pretty cheap. How much are you expecting it to cost for near enough a full day's work?

Yeah but it would take you (or at least it did me) the a day and a half with a normal bog standard power washer and no chemicals and your back would be absolutely fucked.

It's a big enough area to power was. The price range seems about right with both the of the spectrum being lower/higher than I'd expect to pay

£200 seems about right

Will they be disposing of the sludge? Brushing in kiln-dried sand? I'm no expert, I've just had it done before in a property I rented. £140 sounds like a steal.

CraftyNavySeal · 19/08/2025 15:52

£140 sounds fine.

Hiring a pressure washer big enough for the drive would cost you that anyway and then take hours of your time.

I did my patio and paths with a small borrowed one and that took ages.

The sludge will be removed not sure about sand. Will text and ask

The £140 man is not available until Oct.

I ideally need it done it much earlier (hosting family from abroad). Would £200 be a rip off?

My drive is a bit smaller than yours and I paid £320 the time I had it done.

Buy a Kärcher and do it yourself, in sections if need be. It'll need doing every year, sometimes twice, so you may as well get your own pressure washer.
Try household vinegar instead of weedkiller. It's cheap (a couple of pounds for 5 litres) and apparently won't kill the bees. I don't use it myself as I still hand-pull the weeds but most of my neighbours do. The smell fades quickly.

BellaVita · 19/08/2025 16:09

Blimey £200 is a steal.

Rewis · 19/08/2025 16:12

We rented a power washer for the day. It was good fun. Highly reccomend.

But £140 to 200 for someone else to do it sounds very reasonable price.

KnewYearKnewMe · 19/08/2025 16:18

How much do you think jt should be, OP!

there is the cost of equipment, chemicals, van, fuel, business insurance etc, before you even get to the person making any money.

Jackiepumpkinhead · 19/08/2025 16:22

£200 is a good price considering the size of your drive. I’d be cautious of the cheaper quote. I was quoted more than that for my small garden. I bought my own pressure washer instead.

Baconking · 19/08/2025 16:28

What people said it would take 2 hours?

How much are the 2 hour people charging?

geoger · 19/08/2025 16:30

Given the size of the area even £250 is fair
i think it will take much longer than 2 hours to do

jonthebatiste · 19/08/2025 16:47

2 hours? Have you ever set up a power washer, used it, cleaned up the run off, put the power washer away? And then you want weeds removing and weedkiller putting down?

In London you'd be looking at around 300 quid for that size driveway, and you can expect it to take 4-5 hours, done properly, with a break for tea in the middle.
