@LittlePigRobinson

What ever you do OP don't watch any of the 'Carry on....' films or you might never get over it 😂

@soupyspoon

Oooooh matron!

LOLOLLOL!!! 😆

Sorry but I love them! (Carry On Films!) Even now. Blush

One classic (hilarious) scene, was in Carry On Loving, where a man (played by Peter Butterworth) came into the Bliss Dating Agency, (Sid James and Hattie Jacques ran it,) and he asked if he could be matched with a lady.

Sid said to him 'have you ever been married?' The man said 'widowed - twice.' Sid said 'oh I'm sorry to hear that. How did your wives die?'

The man said 'first wife died from eating poison mushrooms.'

Sid said 'oh dear, what did your second wife die of?' The man said 'a cracked skull?'

Sid said 'how did that happen?' The man said 'she wouldn't eat the mushrooms!'

😂

(Sorry. I'll get my coat. Blush)

Quite a lot of stuff from the past is a bit Shock @Cabinqueen (Especially pre 21st century!) I'm not 'woke' but some stuff makes me a bit like 'gosh!' Even some of the terminology in some comedies and dramas from the noughties was a bit near the knuckle. Like The Inbetweeners for instance. And Shameless.

I caught part of a Dirty Harry film some weeks back - mid 1970s, and a woman who was not 'conventionally' attractive hit on Dirty Harry, and he said 'I only do it with humans' and when she said 'oh, you cheeky fucker...' he punched her and knocked her over. Also, his boss said 'Harry hates everyone,' and went on to name insulting racist terms for Italians, South Mexicans, Afro Carribean people, and Asian people (South Asian and South East Asian.)

Also, in Take Me Home (a 1980s TV series,) featuring Keith Barron and Maggie O'Neill, (he was a taxi driver and she was his affair partner,) she said 'I haven't had sex with my husband for 2 months, I'm not doing it with him, I don't want to.' Keith's character said 'but that's his right, you're denying his his right!' Like it was her duty to provide sex for him. Also, it's inexplicable that a man was allowed to rape his WIFE, until the early 1990s! Twas a different time. Things are somewhat better now!

Depicting these things is not the same as approving of them. Do you think the recent drama about the murdering schoolboy should not have been shown?

A sign of the times.

There's a scene in the John Wayne's film 'A Quiet Man' when he abuses his wife all the way home. They get home & it's clear that they go to bed afterwards. There are films (I forget which ones right now) when husbands spank their wives & the wife subsequently complies.

All unacceptable.

Don’t knock it. I wish my DH would do it! X

I love the Carry Ons too ❤️

Kenneth Williams was always my favourite. Do you like Carry On Screaming? I adore Fenella Fielding in that film - she had the most gorgeous voice, and they were hilarious as siblings 😁

😂 I'd forgotten about that scene! Daft! But just so funny! 🚬🔥

Ballykissmangle · 18/08/2025 21:33

Surely this is Cary Grant playing a character, not Cary Grant.

HonoriaBulstrode · 18/08/2025 22:03

Infamy, infamy.....

soupyspoon · 18/08/2025 22:14

Love the carry ons, my favourite is Khyber, that dining room scene is sublime.

Tezza1 · 18/08/2025 22:22

@LikeWhoUsesTypewritersAnyway I love Carry on Cleo. One of my favourite puns of all times: Kenneth Williams as Julius Caesar, "Infamy, infamy, they've all got it in for me!"

So puerile, but one of my family's favourite things to screech at appropriate times.

soupyspoon · 18/08/2025 22:27

I say that line a lot.

😆 Kenneth was a legend! As were many others in these films.

They had to make that one, just for the double meaning in the title. 😁

And? He did it all the way through his career. Many other films of the period, or older, also have men slapping women. Or some humorous bit of a man getting angry and wanting to slap. No big deal IMO as times have changed.
