It’s an ironing one

Let me start by saying I hate ironing! DH can’t/wont iron and we’re away at the mo. Linen trousers and no pinchy coat hangers only ones where they fold in the middle and hang over each side - I don’t want to put them on that type of hanger as they dent by the knee (hope I haven’t lost you yet) so I hung them over the chair in the room to wear later. DH has moved chair because he needed it, linen trousers are in a crumpled pile on the floor. I know there’s worse problems in the world, and I’m super tired from travelling and organising everyone’s stuff, but he genuinely can’t understand why I’m annoyed.

Linen - not a good choice for taking away.
The End.

But, I do know what you mean.

@Wingedharpy You are right.. I am already thinking next trip away though.. yes to linen trousers and no DH 😉 🤣

I feel your pain.
I’m responsible for washing and ironing in our house, I don’t mind but I have strict procedures how and where to put items for drying or for using next day and it drives me mad when my DH does that.

Faceonthewrongfoot · 17/08/2025 19:15

Regardless of the material, I'd be thoroughly pissed off if DH threw my clothes on the floor because he "needed" the chair they were on.

saveforthat · 17/08/2025 19:18

I've not ironed anything for about 10 years so I probably have very low standards but there is no point in ironing linen as it creases as soon as you wear it. YANBU to expect him to not throw clothes on the floor though.

YANBU.

Male here and I’m the only one in our household who irons. DW owns very few clothes that need ironing, whereas I have cotton work shirts, and linen shirts and trousers that have to be ironed (don’t like the non-iron shirts). So when working, I iron every week and just do any ironing DW also needs done.

As DW said early in our relationship, ‘there’s nothing in the Y-chromosome that means you can’t iron.’ She was right - and admittedly I was trying it on to see if she would do my ironing rather than expecting her to do it.

Everyone knows you’re wearing linen when you turn up in creased clothes. Annoying that DH did what he did, but it’s not the end of the world.

Stayed with friends in the US recently and they had linen bedding. Lovely and cool - creases and all.

Empress13 · 17/08/2025 19:22

I’d pass him said iron !

CarefullyCuratedFurniture · 17/08/2025 19:25

Wtf did he throw your clothes on the floor? Who does that? What a div. How would he like if you just chucked his clothes on the floor because you "needed a chair" (what did he need it for anyway?).

Linen trousers are better rolled up than hung, FWIW. Hang them temporarily in the bathroom while you have a shower to help the worst creases drop out, but then roll them up instead of hanging.

PluckyChancer · 17/08/2025 19:30

I don’t like ironing pointless stuff like sheets and towels etc. but I do iron a fair bit as I sew for my hobby and you need to press the seams open as you sew them.

Viscose/linen mix clothes tend to crease less but are still lightweight enough for sunny days.

averylongtimeago · 17/08/2025 19:39

Ironing? What is the “ironing “ of which you speak?

hang the trousers in the bathroom, hopefully most of the creases will drop out.
I make no suggestion as to how to re-educate your husband, is there a patio where you are staying?

SteakBakesAndHotTakes · 17/08/2025 19:41

He threw your freshly ironed clothes in a pile on the floor??

It looks a helluva lot worse if you don’t iron it first though.
