What’s the most you’ve ever spent in a supermarket?

I just spent £125 in Home Bargains. We go once a month.

We bought lots of toiletries (shampoo, conditioner, skincare and haircare), cleaning products, candles, a new cutlery set and a doormat. We also bought some food i.e granola and yogurt.

I think this is the most we’ve ever spent in a supermarket in one go. What about you?

£500 (approx) at Christmas? Feeding 6 adults and 2 children with 3 days of leftovers after Christmas Day for 2+2 plus ‘food parcels’ for 4.

Normally spend about £150 a week in a supermarket for 1 adult, 2 teens and 1 tween. Most I’ve probably spent is about £250. B&M isn’t a supermarket though, most that I’ve spent there would be under £100 at once.

€600 at Supervalu when catering Christmas dinner (and several meals around it) for 12. Plus €200 at the Aldi next door on alcohol.

$350 for a weekly food shop in publix. I wanted to cry

CountryMumof4 · 17/08/2025 18:51

We average at around £150-180 a week, but that's for 6 of us (although one is rarely home for food). I think the highest was around £300 just before Christmas one year.

Gosh
Is that what most people spend these days
Question for other mumsnetters ?

Easily, if that's covering everything for all meals and all the sundries, household items etc.

AnnaQuayInTheUk · 17/08/2025 18:56

As others have said, HB isn't a supermarket. If you've bought household goods then it's likely you'll spend more

Our household is 2 adults, a dog and two cats. We spend around £120 each week but we often have visitors - this weekend there have been 6 adults.

I think the most I've ever spent was a Christmas shop a few years ago where we had family staying for 10 days plus our DC were still at home. That was about £350 and didn't include the alcohol!

About 7 years ago, I spent 200 quid in Aldi. We had done a volunteer day for a food bank so the office did a whip-round so we could buy some stuff for them. It was actually really really difficult to spend 200 quid in Aldi! We had 4 trolleys full of stuff.

£250 on a telly in Tesco

SnippySnappy · 17/08/2025 19:01

£400 ish for Christmas (to cover Christmas Day itself plus Christmas Eve - NYE period)

Coffeeishot · 17/08/2025 19:02

I wouldn't say HB is s supermarket i bought a lawn mower and a bedroom desk for 1 of the dc and some bathroom bits and bobs and spent aprox £400 in HB

Hoppinggreen · 17/08/2025 19:04

£450 in M&S at Christmas last year while still getting an Ocado 2 days later.
Didn't buy much booze either so no idea how it was so much, especially as there are only 4 of us and we go out for xmas Dinner

40 odd years ago my parents went to a large hyper market - just for a normal monthly shop. Usual bill was about £50 quid (I wish!) the bill came to £450 😱. My poor dad nearly had a heart attack - then discovered the girl had run two mugs my
mum had bought through the till at £200 each instead of £2.

Always check your till receipt. I often find errors, but never had one this bad before!

Hmm about £400 for Rosh Hashanah.

Weekly food shop is about £120 in M&S, 2 adults, 2 children.
