To think people who own a Sat Nav are lazy sods or just probably not intelligent enough to read a map?

They only send you into a field anyway.

Complete waste of money.

but sat nav great when you need a Plan B- roadworks, accidents etc

or in london

meglet · 30/05/2008 14:12

I love my SatNav. I can't drive and read a map at the same time.

themoon66 · 30/05/2008 14:31

I have a deep seated mistrust of sat nav and am convinced that they have ways of tracking me, sat nav being one of their devices.

So no, I haven't got one and I don't want one.

I did let someone use one in my car the other week. He insisted it was ace, but it annoyed the hell out of me because I kept having to turn my loud music down every few mins to hear the stupid bint's instructions

TinkerbellesMum · 30/05/2008 14:32

People with a washing machine are lazy and probably not intelligent enough to stick their clothes in a tub and add some water and soap. Don't get me started on tumble driers! I mean it doesn't take much intelligence to hang out washing, does it?

flowerybeanbag · 30/05/2008 14:35

I am intelligent. I am intelligent enough to know how to read a map. I am also intelligent enough to know that if I try to read said map while simultaneously driving, DS and I are likely to meet a sticky end.

I heart my satnav.

GrimmaTheNome · 30/05/2008 16:38

Not to mention, there have been cases of people being done by the police for mapreading while driving.

oopsadaisyangel · 30/05/2008 16:42

I love my sat nav Its saved DH and me having many an argument while trying to find our way around france on hols!! Although the wee wifey on the sat nav drive me nuts!!

yummiemumma · 30/05/2008 16:51

well sat navs are done by womens voices cos men knoe women are alwayss right

CountessDracula · 30/05/2008 16:52

I hate them in London
I refuse to let minicab drivers use them as we always end up stuck in traffic or going a very long way round

yummiemumma · 30/05/2008 16:54

taxi driveres always do that take the long way round so they get extra fare money hello ladies

Iota · 30/05/2008 16:54

It's a good thing that I can map read or how the hell would I have managed to navigate anywhere in the last 25 years?

Me and dh do have his and hers sat-navs now though

Oblomov · 30/05/2008 16:57

Satnavs are brilliiant.
Maybe Gordon does not have the necessary intelligent to be able to do 2 things at once, i.e drive and listen to instructions.
But driving whilst map reading is o.k., right, yeah like that is safe.
Good idea.

Oblomov · 30/05/2008 17:01

And yes, I am a very proficint map reader as well. But it gives a backing confidence, that it reassuring.
Gordon, have you ever actually used one , or are you speaking of something that you have no experience of ?

motherinferior · 30/05/2008 17:07

Oh, very probably, but I hate driving and frankly anything that improves the vile experience is IMO a Good Thing.

TinkerbellesMum · 30/05/2008 17:26

I have to use a taxi more often than I would like, plus the one the hospital provide and I have never had a taxi go the long way following a satnav.

handlemecarefully · 30/05/2008 17:27

Pre - sat nav dh drove into the rear of a stationery vehicle (traffic had unexpectedly come to a halt on a dual carriageway) whilst trying to check his map whilst driving....

Dp bought me sat nav for xmas as I have no sense of direction. I went mad at the 'waste of money'.
However he bought it because I am self employed and have to go around visiting clients or finding their premises to go and work. Just bunging in their postcode when I set off saves a lot of time, and in a self employed persons day, time = money.
Its only once sent me to the wrong place, never into fields, and means I'm not getting stressed trying to read maps or directions whilst finding my way round unfamiliar places. I can't be expected to memorise up to 3 different routes every day, and sat nav helps me to get from one appointment to another much more easily.

If I'm not in the car on my own, or am a passenger, then its map and human navigation.

But if it's a long way or in a foreign country, how are you supposed to remember all the roads? Vive TomTom!

Flashman · 30/05/2008 20:11

oh i love my sat nav too - so it is all very well saying read a map but what about when you are driving? And the great think is now myself and DW don't argue when we go somewhere for the first time.

Blandmum · 30/05/2008 20:13

Oh I can do that malory, and have done so in the past. But it is just so much easier with the Satnav.

If you have another adult in the car do you forbid them to navigate for you? Just so that you can DIY?

I think of the satnav like having another adult in the car.

mylovelymonster · 30/05/2008 20:15

Just another gadget to waste your hard-earned dosh on, IMHO.
