Chicken Breast or Leg?

Aquarius1234 · 16/08/2025 19:11

Give me a leg or two any day!
I very much dislike Breast because it has blood veins that make me freak out. Once ive cut them all off for making very occasionally chicken kebabs/ Mexican etc im left with very little chicken.

Thoughts?

Ive bought a nice chicken spatchcock but won't touch the breast parts. 😒 Legs were good though. 👍

For this reason I dont buy them very much at all!

Leg has more veins though?

Lennonjingles · 16/08/2025 19:12

I like the breast meat hot, but love a cold leg.

Purplecatshopaholic · 16/08/2025 19:13

Leg meat - more juicy

RedstripeAlias · 16/08/2025 19:13

I feel like I should like leg better as it's more grown up! But I love a roast chicken breast.

Leg has more veins though?

I dont eat right down to the bones and I eat the main bits and imo they dont have blood bits in. I never touch any little bits that do.
Breast is just a nightmare after the 1st slice..
Lol

Legs have more flavour anyway.

Legs!

shellyleppard · 16/08/2025 19:17

What about skinless boneless chicken thighs?? They go well in a curry, casserole or stew. I do them for a midweek roast in winter

fruitpastille · 16/08/2025 19:19

Leg has more flavour and better texture. Breast can go dry easily. I haven't noticed blood veins in either. If I was squeamish I'd probably buy pre prepared stuff. Personally I like to eat every tiny bit and often make stock with the bones.

Lots of veins though

Aquarius1234 · 16/08/2025 19:22

Ive had mixed with thighs. Sometimes covered in veins, Sometimes not so much.
Wings well they are tiny.

It depends for me what im making, anything cubed and heavily seasoned/flavoured then breast, anything else ie with pots & veg/salad then leg or thigh meat every day of the week! So much more succulent and flavourful imo.

ItsFridayIminLoveJS · 16/08/2025 19:34

I dont eat legs.. dark meat and so slimey 🤢.
I use breasts for everything.
Stir fries/ curry's etc.

JaceLancs · 16/08/2025 19:37

I will eat any but prefer breast - we’ve got roast chicken tomorrow and as it’s just DS and I will probably have a leg each - share a breast and keep the rest for lunches or with salad next day

ZippyPeer · 16/08/2025 19:37

Maybe meat isn't for you if you don't like veins? Go vegetarian and avoid the whole issue!

FortheloveofCheesus · 16/08/2025 19:40

Have honestly never noticed veins in meat really.

Bone meat every time. Thigh!!

IntoTheFringe · 16/08/2025 19:45

How wasteful. Why not just buy legs if that's all you're going to eat?

Also, "blood vein"...? What other types of vein are there?

NoMoreHotHols · 16/08/2025 20:05

I hate pickiness and food waste, I eat everything on a chicken. I prefer the red meat parts, they’re higher in taurin but I sometimes buy breast for lower calories.

TY78910 · 16/08/2025 20:24

Leg for the flavour. Thighs all the way. Breast in a sauce otherwise it’s just a bit bland after you eat the seasoned bit 🤷🏼‍♀️

Timeforabitofpeace · 16/08/2025 21:03

Leg is apparently better for you (according to an NHS dietitian).

Ekkekkkeekkkekk · 16/08/2025 21:06

Legs and thighs are far more nutritious.

Not only do you get the protein but you also get fat and collagen.

DirtyBird · 16/08/2025 21:13

Dark meat all the way. But I will use a breast if it’s a crockpot recipe which will allow the flavor and moisture to seep into the meat. Breasts are flavorless and dry to me.

Aquarius1234 · 16/08/2025 21:42

The red bits on cooked chicken breast are usually not blood, but rather myoglobin, a protein that gives muscles their color. Myoglobin is similar to the hemoglobin in blood but is found within the muscle tissue

Its just unappealing in the same way gristle is or thick fat on steak.

Legs. I literally won’t buy chicken breast. I will eat it as part of a roast and we often spatchcock and BBQ or smoke, and then I’ll eat it (with skin on and other bits). But otherwise pretty boring.

Yes I can't think of much worse/ dull than ordering a chicken breast dish in a restaurant.
Bland. Plus for me I am picky and just dislike it.
