To lose my appetite thanks to DH

I cooked my favourite slow cooker chicken curry recipe today (yes I know it’s boiling outside 🤣).
DH went to serve up whilst I was putting baby to bed, and called up “how long has this chicken been on because I found a pink bit”. It had been on about 8 hours.

I came down and asked to see the pink bit and he said he’d mixed it back in. I hunted for it and no sign.
He back tracked and pointed to some cooked chicken (thighs) said it was sort of like this and was probably just the colour of the meat. He said it would be fine and wanted to dish up and for us to have our meal, but I just felt so put off I declined to eat. I don’t see how we were supposed to have a nice dinner with a supposed piece of pink chicken hiding in the curry sauce, it’s like a food poisoning Russian roulette.

I think he was being a bit critical and rude to go searching through the dish, and would never have described the chicken as pink (uncooked) if he had made it. My stomach is actually really queasy now. He’s finished his meal. Hasn’t died yet. Now saying he feels bad and maybe it was not pink really but just ‘the light’. Thanks for that.

there is literally no way that the chicken could have been pink after 8 hours! Do either of you have health anxiety? This seems very odd.

IlovePhilMitchell · 15/08/2025 20:57

For fucks sake grow up and eat your dinner.

londongirl12 · 15/08/2025 20:59

If it was thigh it was likely the colour. Surely you would know if you’ve cooked this loads before?

ThreePointOneFourOneFiveNine · 15/08/2025 21:01

Chicken in a slow cooker for 8 hours is definitely cooked. Enjoy your dinner.

BoxOfCats · 15/08/2025 21:11

YANBU. Can you also please post the recipe? 😬

holachicatita · 15/08/2025 21:14

Unless it was a bit of chicken that didn't quite make it into the slow cooker?

SugarandSpiceandAllThingsNaice · 15/08/2025 21:17

Geez you are being over dramatic, no one searches through a curry looking for a pink bit to be rude and critical.

Your chicken is definitely cooked and I’m surprised you don’t realise that chicken thighs have large veins running through the meat that look a bit pink when fully cooked.

Gemmawemma9 · 15/08/2025 21:18

Grow up. You sound utterly ridiculous. And bloody hard work!!

steff13 · 15/08/2025 21:19

I wouldn't think that it would be uncooked after 8 hours in the slow cooker.

Couldn't you just check each of your pieces before you eat them? If I were concerned I would have just poked them each with a thermometer.

Teenytwo · 15/08/2025 21:24

I would feel the same! I’ve bought a meat thermometer for general use, it might be worth investing in one because then next time you can test a couple of the bigger chunks and know you are safe.

Eenameenadeeka · 15/08/2025 21:26

I think he was right about that sometimes parts of the thigh look a bit pink. You know it was in for 8 hours, so had to be fully cooked, sounds like he was just checking? No need for the drama just eat your dinner 😊

TheGreatWesternShrew · 15/08/2025 22:39

I mean it had been cooking for 8 hours so you know it was fine. And if you were worried then chuck a portion in a bowl and microwave it for a few minutes. Sorted.

You were dramatic.

CatKings · 15/08/2025 22:42

Sometimes chicken thigh keeps that colour even when cooked.

I remember years ago DH refused to eat a sausage casserole which had been in the oven for hours (the sausages had been cooked in a pan first) because they were ‘raw’. They weren’t, I just hadn’t burnt them and shrivelled them up like his mum did.
