To have the noise of this printer through my holidays

Dh’s hobby is using 3D printers to make things I think are pretty useless tbf, but he enjoys doing it.
He has a new printer, we’re off work for two weeks and he has the printer going most of the day.
We have a large sitting room/dining room attached and it’s on a table near the computer area, just really close to where we sit to watch tv etc. There’s nowhere else to put it.
The noise is driving me mad, not making me feel relaxed at all.
We alternate doing bedtimes every other night with Dd, is it unreasonable to ask him to please just do the printing when he is downstairs at night and i’m doing bedtime with Dd

yep fuck that. You are on holiday and it’s meant to be relaxing. He’ll need to réalisé this is not going to be possible to have it on as normal during the vacation period.
Especially if he’s just making stuff (clutter) for himself as a hobby

Does he have it in an enclosure? They are much quieter that way and print quality can increase because of better temp control. Other possibilities: move the printer to a wardrobe, make sure it’s on a very sturdy table to
minimize vibration.

the catch with asking him to not print during certain hours is that can mean not printing at all as some prints can take more than a day.

it’s still possible to plan. I’ve got 2 printers and I do think about what I am going to be printing and what other activities are going on, but sometimes even with the best planning I end up with a long higher voc job running on my louder printer when someone else wants to use that room. Mine aren’t in the main area of the house so it’s easier, but conflicts still arise.

How long does it take to print something?

He has to have it near the computer as he sends designs etc from it

The 3D printers DH has used don't require a computer nearby, but admittedly I don't know how common that is and it may vary by printer. DH edits the file on the computer, then the file goes on a tiny USB drive that slots into the printer. Is it absolutely necessary that the computer be right there? If so, can he not move the computer temporarily? (This is easier if it's a laptop, of course.)

Because some prints take so long to do, I don't know if it's really possible to request that he only does it at certain times of the day, but I do think it's fair to ask that he looks into ways to minimise the noise. If it really can't be moved or muffled, I'd ask him to take a break from it for some of your holiday.

There’s nowhere else to put it aside from our bedroom 😬

Is it physically connected by a cable to the computer? It’s more common to use a thumb drive or just print wirelessly.

No I don’t think so, he just seems to sit at the computer table and be doing bits on the computer and the printer is next to it on a small table

Surely bedroom would be better but obviously no printing over night
