Neighbors barking dogs are driving me mad

I moved into my new house in March - all great except for next door’s 2 barking dogs. They seem to bark for no reason whatsoever and one will set the other off. It’s often just a minute but is frequent through the day and night. I’ve met lots of other neighbours who are lovely but not spoken face to face with these ones. They keep themselves to themselves according to others. I’ve started to tell the dogs to be quiet as the owners don’t seem to. Tonight I’ve been drifting off 3 times and then woken by their barking. They must hear me telling their dogs to be quiet - is it time for a face to face chat? I would have thought they might come round to me but looks like they won’t. I’ve no wish to fall out with anyone but am I being u reasonable in expecting not to be barked at when I go into my garden - I’m grumpy and tired tonight so now is not the time although I’m sorely tempted.

Poor, sad dogs.

Well, I’ll tell you what I did @PixieTales , and this will really blow your mind…

In similar circumstances to the OP I bought a CD online that emits a high pitched noise that dogs don’t like. I worked from home and every time my disgusting neighbours’ disgusting mutt started its barking I whacked the volume up.

Trained the damn thing to shut up in no time. If you can’t train your dog I’ll train it for you.

Thankfully I now live in a detached house and don’t have to suffer other people.

OP, I highly recommend one of these CDs.

So no garden near neighbours?

wtf? Children and dogs are not the same. A dog should not be disturbing neighbours, but sometimes with children there isn’t anything the parents can do. A dog can be sent elsewhere, locked in a room…. Trained!

Neither should someone else’s children be disturbing neighbours on a regular basis.

Apart from teaching them not to screech and shout whilst in the garden or moving them
inside you mean? Oh the irony.

Wow, I see the dog haters are out in full force on this thread. 🙄

My neighbour got a small dog that barks ALL THE TIME. He clearly got annoyed with it as he started locking him out in his back garden, which is right under my baby's bedroom window, and just let him bark and bark.

Let me tell you, the rage I felt when my newborn baby kept getting woken up by a fucking yapping dog is like something I have never felt before in my life.

I went over there, in my pyjamas, no bra, soaked in breastmilk (baby was like 5-6 weeks old) and shouted at the neighbour like a fucking mad woman.

Problem solved.

The dog still barks 24/7 but he keeps it inside so it's only loud enough to ocasionally bother me but not loud enough to wake my baby.

Poor dog though. Can't imagine he's a happy puppy. It's been a year and it's still barking. Can't imagine he brings much joy to the owner either.

I don’t give a shit. I refuse to have my human life wrecked by an animal loudly barking non stop. It’s the stuff of nightmares to live with. Couldn’t give a flying fuck what you think about that 👍🏻

And what a pleasant human being you sound…..prime example of why I prefer most animals to most people 🤣

My neighbours were the unpleasant people. The dog was an unfortunate creature but I can’t help that situation when I have utter psychos for neighbours. For my sanity I trained their dog not to bark, because they couldn’t.

You can take your opinions on it and stick them elsewhere because you clearly have no idea what it’s like to be tortured daily with the never ending sound of a dog barking.

Your opinion on it is nothing.

whyisnothingsimple · 15/08/2025 20:34

Yes a dogs bark is so intrusive - I had dogs for 40 odd years but I never let them intrude on my neighbours - they were well trained (can’t think of the bossy lady’s name but she was right - they are a pack animal and need hierarchy. Think my neighbour might be here as today has been bliss - 4/5 bouts of barking for less than a minute - I can cope with that.

To be fair I love dogs, I have three of my own.

but being tormented in your own home is something else. It’s irrational how you loose all thought for anything but that. People who let their dogs bark and disturb others should have them removed from them.

JohnofWessex · 15/08/2025 21:14

Keep a log of whats happening then off to The Council

It’s the language that poster uses to describe an animal that I find quite disgusting and almost disturbing with the lack of empathy towards an innocent animal.

Lots of things are annoying and antisocial- loud music, bonfires, kids screaming, couples arguing, cars speeding, but saying things like:

unfortunate creature

every time my disgusting neighbours’ disgusting mutt started its barking

Trained the damn thing to shut up

I think is taking it a step too far and not necessary.

🤷🏻‍♀️ I have animals. I always have had animals. I have compassion in abundance for animals. It’s not the dug’s fault, but I don’t care. Wasn’t their children’s fault the way they were dragged up either but society had to deal with the result of that. Unfortunately there was no CD available to train their shitty behaviour out of them.

Too many people own dogs who simply shouldn’t.

Peaceisenough · 15/08/2025 01:15

I wish all dog owners thought like you Gorse.

Yes, agree. My neighbours are selfish entitled twats that leave their dogs howling and barking for hours. We’ve complained but they don’t give a shit.

caramac04 · 15/08/2025 22:52

@Thattimeofthenight you haven’t compassion in abundance for animals when you describe your neighbours unhappy dog as disgusting. As for the dog’s owners, you’re probably right.

Shat everywhere, lunged at kids, barked all day long…

I’m not fussed what you think of my language. It was a disgusting animal and they were disgusting people.

If we ever get dog licences I suggest that before they get anywhere near an animal potential owners have to go through a training course where it is spelled out to them in words of one syllable how there animal is expected to behave and that if it doesnt bye bye doggy hello large fine
