How soon can I book a private scan after EPU scan?

I was referred in to EPU for a scan following some spotting, had the scan today and baby was measuring on time and doctor said there was a strong heartbeat, we saw the flicker 😊 they discharged me and gave advice on what to look out for, when to call, and that I would be ok to wait for a scan at 12 weeks.

My query is that we had already booked a private scan on Sunday before the midwife referred me for this scan at EPU. Would it be risky to still go to the scan on Sunday, it’s a Window to the Womb scan so they will do a TV scan to get photos. Obviously if there is any risk I’ll try to reschedule but can’t see any information about risk online, mainly recommendation to wait 2 weeks for accurate growth scans?

You're supposed to wait two weeks between ultrasound due to the very very very low chance of a heating effect from the ultrasound. But ultimately I think the risk is minimal. However, if something did go wrong, would you feel guilty about the second scan? If so I'd rearrange.

There are theoretical risks around tissue heating and cavitation but to date there is no actual evidence of any harm being done. Ultrasound machines are also set well below the safe upper limits.

However is there really any point having another scan so soon? Why not ask the clinic if you can rearrange it in a few weeks time so it bridges the gap between now and your dating scan a bit better?

I’d probably rearrange it because you’ve had some reassurance now and it would be nice to have some more reassurance in a couple of weeks if you start feeling a bit nervous again etc 🥰

I’m a Sonographer, there’s no risk to baby having multiple scans as far as the research is concerned.
But personally I wouldn’t bother… what’s it going to show you? You know the pregnancy is viable, you know it’s a singleton and it’s not ectopic. They look like a jelly bean at that stage. I’d personally just wait until your 12 week NHS scan. Save your money!

How far along are you? I had a scan at 7 and then 10 then 12 weeks (nhs one). Could you space them out in a similar way?

Thanks everyone for your advice - I wasn't sure on the guidelines. The private scan had been booked when we first found out, not knowing we would be referred to an EPU 🙈 luckily the clinic have let us move our appointment to a later date.
