To be really put off booking at this holiday park?

My friend stayed at this holiday park recently and said it was quite nice, but I've been on their social media to have a look and maybe book, and was a bit shocked at their attitude to a complaint they had from a guest. They've literally screenshotted her email to them and pht it publicly on their Facebook page.

Admittedly, the grammar and punctuation are lacking, but AIBU to think that you just don't screenshot customers' emails to you and plaster them on social media?? I have no idea who is really in the right here re her complaints (they've said their side but who knows what her side really is - they don't show her actual complaint) but I'm a bit appalled that they didn't even black out her name (is this even compliant with GDPR)? Anyway, it's really put me off booking there. Some of the comments are awful, mocking this 'Julie' woman, and people trying to find her on Facebook. Interested in other people's thoughts. (Or am I foolish to care at all?)

Images currently under review, but it's Meadow Lakes caravan holidays on Facebook if anyone wants to have a look (it seemed it all kicked off two days ago, so you'd need to scroll down to see it).

If you think it's bad to put screenshots of someone's emails on social media, why have you shared them here? You realise this is just as public as Facebook?

Are you Julie or something?

Really odd thread.

ChocoChocoLatte · 14/08/2025 17:32

Why are you putting them on here - is that your complaint?

If it puts you off, don’t go. It’s that simple.

How strange

Worriedmotheroftwo · 14/08/2025 17:33

Ha - no I'm not Julie. And the once-private emails are 'out there' now, in public, so it's hardly the same thing? Sorry if you think I'm odd - I am autistic to be fair.

I do think they should have removed the person’s name, but the holiday park’s reply is fair enough.

Mydadsbirthday · 14/08/2025 17:36

Julie sounds like a piece of work so I don't blame them

Sirzy · 14/08/2025 17:37

They should have blocked the names but the rest seems fair

Radiowaawaa · 14/08/2025 17:38

I don’t think that you can be that appalled by the post if you have moved it to another platform and told people where to find it.

You could have summarised without sharing it.

Coconutter24 · 14/08/2025 17:40

They’re probably just putting their side out because Julie is obviously threatening them with bad reviews etc. It wouldn’t put me off because I wouldn’t act like Julie

BlusteryLake · 14/08/2025 17:43

I think it's unprofessional of them to air their greivenaces in public. They are fair enough in their response but absolutely no need to put it on their socials. It should have been dealt with privately. I would be put off booking with them if this is how they handle complaints (justified or otherwise).

Darragon · 14/08/2025 17:44

Their response seems perfectly reasonable to an obviously silly customer threatening them with legal action and a bunch negative reviews over a caravan stay, TBH. All they could have done better is crossing out her name. They're not responsible for random idiots trying to find her on FB.

bldy · 14/08/2025 17:45

It's unprofessional to have shared her name.

Agree

GravyBoatWars · 14/08/2025 17:53

I would have advised them to remove at least her last name just to keep themselves on the highest road possible.

But people threatening to maliciously review-bomb small businesses (and actually doing it) either over ridiculous reasons or just to try to scam money out of them is a genuine problem and there's not much businesses can do about it except try to get out in front of it. The customer won't keep their disputes private (this one made that clear in her email) so it's difficult to say that businesses should always do so.

Shatteredallthetimelately · 14/08/2025 17:54

Julie's sounds like that person that eats all of a 3 course meal, licks the dishes clean then complains once the bill arrives that she found a hair in the uncooked coq au vin and won't be paying.

Edited..pressed to soon
Her personal details should have been removed.

bldy · 14/08/2025 17:55

when you read a review though you can generally spot the unhinged & unfair ones particularly amongst of sea of rational ones.

Frequently. But the reality is people don't tend to read all the reviews, they look at ratings and they are biased by what they see when they search up a business - if they see a bunch of negative comments/reviews that will deter them even if the individual comments/reviews seem suspect on inspection.

soupyspoon · 14/08/2025 18:00

Are you Julie, Julie?

nomas · 14/08/2025 18:01

Sounds like Julie is threatening them to give her money or else she will leave a bad review saying that their prices were lowered after she booked.

Julie does indeed sound like a piece of work but the holiday park should have blocked out her name from to protect themselves.

LastKnownSurvivor · 14/08/2025 18:06

We can't actually see what Julie's complaint is. It might be justified.

Yeh, that's what it sounds like from what the holiday park are saying. We don't know Julie's side of course, so who knows if that's all there is to it. I agree with you that they should have blocked her name. And yes, if the holiday park are being 100% honest then I agree she is being a piece of work - but I'm just a bit shocked that companies can screenshot private emails send to them with both first name and surname and upload publicly to social media like that (and yes, I know I've shared the screenshot, but it wasn't a private email to me; it was already very much in the public domain).

Yeh, I was thinking the same thing. Maybe, maybe not. But the holiday park haven't included that bit of the emails. Who knows what she was really complaining about.

Frankly you are as bad for publishing it. I'm not sure that being autistic is an excuse.

Blanknotebook · 14/08/2025 18:16

I bet Julie’s brother has better things to do than worry about his sisters caravan holiday!

Oh no - I think you misread my post. Autism is not being used as a reason for me resharing what is already in the public domain. Just as a reason why people sometimes find me odd 👌
