New posters joining us in the genuine spirit of our civil discourse welcome. It would be helpful to get the background from at least some of the Observer items above before posting. There are currently a number of interesting items on The Observer website and linked to above.

To all - Please be extremely cautious when it comes to naming or implicating people and addresses not in the public eye or with no direct connection to the story, and around the understandable health speculations, especially where details are unclear or still emerging. Remember, even Hollywood rabbits attract the odd flea. Please do not engage with visitors who seem to have their own agenda and seek to derail. Avoid @'ing and quoting them as - from experience - this will only encourage them back to the threads. We have done amazingly well together for fourteen very interesting, very serious and very silly threads so far. I can't be here as much as I'd like so all help with keeping our discussion walking along in our usual reasonable and respectful fashion is very welcome.

Hello everyone. Without meaning to cause any alarm whatsoever I just want to say that if you want to stay anonymous on here be careful what you are sharing - I don't mean about SW, I mean about yourself. A regular poster on these threads has inadvertently shared quite a bit about themselves and I have thus been able to identify them ( relatively easily). I have no intention whatsoever of sharing this info so please don't worry. I just did it to see if I could and I could. Be a little bit careful. It's very easy to share personal experience and details without meaning to.

Sorry @DisappointedReader , I'm pretty certain that's in Zoom! and my copy is out on loan unfortunately.

I'd prefer not to. I don't want anyone to worry. I only posted as a little reminder to us all. I have no motive other than that.

Please please don't anyone worry! 🙏 There is nothing to worry about from me whatsoever. I am here anonymously and I have absolute respect for everyone else's anonymity here.

TonstantWeader · 19/08/2025 20:16

@WhispersInTheFlowers in the nicest way possible i think that if you mean me, I would much prefer you PM’d me. (I don’t think it is, but never say never 😁). Because otherwise, as @mauvishagain says, it’s human nature to worry. I think it’s a point well made, btw, but I’ve PM’d people on here who I’ve recognised IRL just to tip them the wink.

anyway, wowsers, thread 16 on the horizon. Blimey, @DisappointedReader, bet you never imagined we’d get this far when you created the first thread…..

Crumbs - I can feel a name change coming on!

DisappointedReader · 19/08/2025 20:32

I think a general post to remind everyone would have been better, rather than searching one poster which can rightly cause concern.

However I'm sure that @WhispersInTheFlowers had the best intentions and I wouldn't want to put them in the position of being forced to PM everyone.

If your privacy is a worry, please take note. It is not just a matter for these threads but posting online generally.

Yes I can see that you are right..I shouldn't have made it about one poster. My sincere apologies. All is well.

SimoArmo · 19/08/2025 21:14

Oh darn it. I feel seen. May as well out myself..I'm Simon Arm-pitage.

DisappointedReader · 19/08/2025 21:19

Me too. I'm not a disappointed reader at all. I'm very happy and I've never read a book in my life. I'm only here for the fudge and the drive-by scoldings.

And I’m not in Seattle - have never been there let alone be wrapped up in a load of clingfilm

I do, however, loathe Winnie the Pooh and all equivalent whimsy. I am Dorothy Parker reincarnated 😉

Tickets please, suitably disguised ladies and gentlemen, for the trusty charabanc shortly departing under cover of darkness for 'unflinchingly honest' Thread 16. All cloaks but no daggers, just fingers of fudge:

Mistakes were made. Firstly, I blame our Timeline Correspondent for gallivanting off on jollies leaving extra work to me . Secondly, I blame a DC for seeking my attention at an inopportune moment. Thirdly, I blame our cat for an unauthorised paw on the keyboard.

As ever, please fill up this thread before hopping off to the next, and a last minute reposting of the link to rabbit-filled pastures new will be presumptuously expected.

Time you learnt then, whether 22 or 92. Who else is going to lead the cider-fuelled dancing on our thread research trips?

You are too kind, Disapponted! Could I perhaps volunteer myself as our resident Dance Correspondent? Not sure much dancing takes place in RW’s books, but it may come in useful none the less! Happy to also moonlight as Music Correspondent, and Languages Correspondent - to support our France Correspondent(s)!
