To be bloody proud of myself (and a bit taken aback!)

Yesterday I went to a pub in a station for lunch with my young DD to break up a long journey. Just as we were heading inside, I felt liquid hit the back of my trousers. I turned around to see an older man (maybe 65) had spilt his pint over me. He was obviously a bit drunk but when I turned round he was just chortling to himself.

And before I knew what I was doing, I fixed him with a steely glare and said ‘You have just spilt beer all over my trousers.’ He just kind of smirked, and I continued to stare at him while saying ‘ and so it would be nice if you apologised.’ At which point his friend said ‘ah yes, you should apologise, you did get her soaked’ and the man then apologised to me.

Now, this may strike you as a very ordinary moment, but I cannot emphasise enough how out of character this was for me! I would never have said anything when I was younger- or would perhaps have laughed it off- but I would never have been so direct! I think I am officially in my Gives Zero Fucks era (aka mid-40s) and I just felt proud and wanted to share :) If anyone else has a similar Gives Zero Fucks moment, please feel free to add it!

i absolutely love being mid-40s for this exact reason. there is something about this age that is very empowering in the Zero Fucks space. good job OP. keep it up 🤩

Excellent!

i farted in front of my 15 year old son and his friend the other week. Just walked into the lounge where they were sitting, stood in the doorway and it slipped out. And as I am the same age as you I could not have cared less and was not mortified and was glad I gave the boys a good laugh. Told them it’s my house, I’ll fart if I want to and his mate should take it as a compliment as I obviously feel relaxed in his company. Ten years ago I would have just DIED.

I've surprised myself a couple of times lately, once by really standing up for myself at work and genuinely not caring if the person involved ended up hating me, where in the past I would have been really upset about it and kept quiet for fear of making myself unpopular. And the second time by stopping a woman barging in front of a disabled man getting on the bus, he had sticks and she very nearly took them out from under him. I hate confrontation so it wasn't like me to speak up but it was so rude and potentially dangerous I couldn't help myself. I'm 50 and seem to be running out of fucks to give about what people think of me, I quite like the new, more assertive me!

Love this OP, great job standing up for yourself!

Well done @Richandstrange! It’s very liberating , isn’t it?!
