Posting on behalf of teen DD

She has hyperhidrosis and is really struggling at the moment. Mitchum was her go to for a long time but it stopped working for her last year.. then switched to Dove Advanced spray which again worked very well for a while but has now gone down the same path. Driclor/Perspirex have been effective in the past but she can no longer tolerate the irritation that it causes.

Does anyone have any other suggestions? I’m thinking that we’ll have to go down the Botox route again - she had it a few years ago and it was brilliant, no sweat whatsoever for a few months. I just don’t really have the £700 to fund it at the moment so any alternative would be very welcome..

Have a look at AKT London deodorant balm.
I love it ( I have no connection with the company, just a happy customer). Lots of good reviews.

SoMentallyDrained · 12/08/2025 23:33

I am in the same situation as your DD at the moment, I don't even know why I bother spending so much money on antiperspirant! Has DD had the one dose of botox allowed on the NHS? It's so effective, it's a shame only once is allowed.

Following with interest, and solidarity with your DD

Anononony · 12/08/2025 23:41

Perspi-guard? They also do a soap

I paid for it to be done privately. It was absolutely brilliant for DD - no sweat whatsoever for 3 months and things were still quite heavily reduced right up until the 5/6 month mark. Hadn’t even occurred to me that the NHS would do it to be honest! Dermatology waiting times are horrific where we are though (1 year +) and I think that sweat would be quite far down their priority list unfortunately.

I always used Mitchum Ultimate until last summer, when I believe they changed the formulation. Did absolutely nothing for me after that.
The one I have at present is called Triple Dry, I got it in Boots. No idea how it compares to the others or if it would irritate skin, I have had no issues. I use it at night and make sure it is dry before putting clothes on, and it’s great. It’s a roll on, does take a good 5 minutes to dry but then it just works. Very pleased with it. I’ve never found a spray of any make to help at all. Sympathies for your dd op, it was peri that made me a sweaty mess, feel very sorry for a youngster having to suffer that too.

minipie · 13/08/2025 07:59

Dove or Sure Maximum Protection - they look much the same. Wind up cream

I use the Sure one and it’s great, yesterday in 31 degrees I was sweaty everywhere except my armpits 😆

Superscientist · 13/08/2025 08:01

I use to struggle with sweat but haven't since I switched to wild deodorants. I got one for my niece when she was 13 and she was over the moon at not having to reapply during the school day and that she could have it in her bag without it looking like decode

Stephenkingsbiggestfan · 13/08/2025 08:02

I use men’s stick deodorant and wash my pits with anti bacterial bar soap. That seems to keep most of the sweat at bay. I have noticed the deodorants that say 72 hours protection rather than 48 hours are more effective.

I have always sweated excessively since a teen (I’m in my 50s now).

Second this one, it’s one you use at night and works great for me
I retried Mitchum recently which did nothing

I’ve just started using triple dry too.

So far so good 🤞

Sympathies to your DD. It can get better! I was similar in my late teens and grew out of it in my mid 20s. I used Odaban spray when my hyperhydrosis was bad, and now use only natural deodorant (as in, no antiperspirant) and am absolutely fine.

BunniB · 13/08/2025 08:32

I came on here to suggest Sure roll on. I was stuck in hospital for a while - the ward was like a sauna in the summertime heat - and dh brought me one of his spare Sure 36 hour roll on “man-scented” deodorants. I quite liked the slightly masculine smell (tbh it reminded me of him which I found comforting) and the deodorant was very effective. Not sure how well it works as an anti perspirant as I’m not especially sweaty but can definitely recommend worth giving a Sure roll on a try (perhaps it could be a neutral or feminine scent and just as effective!)

luckylavender · 13/08/2025 08:56

I swear by Sure for men. Nothing has ever been as good

FarmGirl78 · 13/08/2025 09:09

Old Spice stick deodorant. They do some almost feminine scents (Bearglove, Rockstar, can't think of the others) that smell lovely, and they keep me absolutely dry. The stick lasts a long long time too, much longer than my Mitchum one.

JustKeepsBreathing · 13/08/2025 09:15

Sure for men 72 hour spray is my go to.

fatgirlswims · 13/08/2025 09:16

Sure max wind up at night.

clean pits with antibacterialsoap or hibiscrib

Turboislander · 13/08/2025 09:20

Acnecide (an antibacterial face wash) is a really effective deodorant.

Lostfidgetcube · 13/08/2025 09:22

I use odaban. It does irritate a bit when you first use it though.

OvernightBloats · 13/08/2025 09:28

Is she using Perspirex correctly? It is very easy for it to irritate skin if you are not careful with it. There is a Perspirex sensitive which is less irritating.

Wash armpits with soap (not shower gel) at night. Dry armpits firstly with towel, then dry further with paper towel/toilet paper/cotton wool to make sure armpit is bone dry. If there is any moisture left, there will be irritation. Apply Perspirex to area where hair grows, just a tiny amount. Then make sure it dries as fast as possible, so no excessive movement until it dries.

Firstly make sure the skin is fully healed if you attempt to try Perspirex again. I found Perspirex less aggressive to use than Driclor.

Shhhhitsmagic · 13/08/2025 09:30

Fussy is brilliant! I found that sure and mitchum stopped working for me (I think they changed the formula). Fussy doesn't stop you sweating, but I have a full day in the sun and still not smell by the evening

Labyrinthian · 13/08/2025 09:38

I have hyperhidrosis and given that Botox is expensive and was going to be difficult to administer for where I have the excess sweating my doctor prescribed low dose oxybutynin hydrochloride which can be taken long term. It has honestly changed my life. Might be worth speaking to GP if it's suitable for her age group. I had no idea there was a medicated option and thought Botox would be the only solution.

breakfastdinnerandtea · 13/08/2025 09:39

Slightly off topic, but is antiperspirant meant to stop you sweating entirely?? People are saying that they’re dry under their armpits? I use antiperspirant and it stops my sweat smelling bad but doesn’t stop the sweat. Is that not normal?

Yep, definitely uses it correctly. No shaving for 24 hrs before/after and always uses talc to make sure that her armpits are bone dry before applying. She has sensitive skin so no matter what she does it causes irritation. Can get away with one application per week but this isn’t enough for DD. Strangely we’ve found Perspirex worse than Driclor!
