When discussing an expensive purchase that I was considering making a while ago, a friend referred to it a good value if you looked at it as cost per wear.

I love this mindset and always think about things in these terms now. It also goes well with ‘buy cheap, buy twice’. I have a tendency (from my DM) to make do with the cheaper version and I love the shift in thinking.

For me- my smartwatch and my Kindle get used daily. I now buy slightly more expensive gym gear rather than the supermarket stuff. I do wear it around the house so I get my money’s worth!

Ariat leather country boots. Was getting through cheaper country boots & not so cheap wellies (chameau/muck boots etc) not even lasting a winter.

My ariats have done 3 winters of hard use (farm & yard work/walking/riding) and still going strong.

My kitchenaid. I literally use it daily in the holidays and at least twice weekly during term time. I’ve had it 5 years and it is my pride and joy.

My Seasalt raincoat have worn it a lot and it still looks good

Shimano sandals. I wear them cycling probably 6 days out of 8, around 500km per week, plus wear them constantly off the bike (hot country.) They cost £80 and have lasted 3 years so far, but the treads are very worn so will need replacing soon.

My Nespresso coffee maker. Cost about £60 or £70 14 years ago and is still going strong making on average 3 coffees a day between us all. I’ve switched to compostable pods so it’s not as bad environmentally.

Also love my Kindle though had to replace it a few years ago after losing it on holiday.

My Oodie. It’s hideous, but I love it!

Self-emptying robot vacuum with a light mopping function. Absolute godsend when you have 3 very hairy cats, we set it up to run every other day to keep the house clean enough, in between proper deep cleans. Already had a basic robot vacuum (who has now been moved upstairs) and upgraded to the fancy version during Prime day deals, totally worth it.

For the last few years I've invested a lot in long-lasting, made-to-measure clothing using deadstock and vintage fabrics. I find it's actually no more expensive than many "higher end" fast fashion brands, while I get to customise it and it's created to my measurements so everything fits perfectly. And it's supporting a small, UK-based, independent business too. I wear my stuff from The Emperor's Old Clothes on a regular basis because you can decide, based on the design and the fabric you pick, on how casual or formal you want it to be.

A custom made bookshelf with hidden compartment on the bottom to hide a litter tray 😂 from The Pet Carpenter. This was originally a bit of a "I can't believe I'm doing this" spend, but actually I've no regrets since it arrived and it has definitely solved the ugliness of having a litter tray just out and about. It also stops too much litter spreading out too! Edited to add that in terms of cost/use, this will definitely last a good long while as it's obviously well made and sturdy. Might even outlast me 🤷🏻‍♀️

Aeropress, so cheap and used so much
Protected Species waterproof trench coat
Good quality leather stuff in general - jackets, bags
IKEA stacking wine glasses
Various clothes, chambray summer shorts from J Crew, vest tops weirdly from Primark, a dress I bought in Topshop when I was about 15 and still occasionally wear in my 30s!
And my phone I guess, which on a cost per use basis must be doing pretty well.
