Dp and I together since we were 17, now mid 40’s.
Mortgage/house is in both our names, cars in both our names, shared bank account and similar earnings, one Dc & one Ddog

Please can anyone tell me why it would be better to be married and list the reasons

Or is it better not to be?

That's nothing that can't be fixed with a will.

Wills for legally single people don't matter, they can be changed at any time.

Do you travel abroad at all?

There was a poster who's DH died suddenly while they were on holiday. She said that while the whole thing was awful it would have been so much worse if they hadn't been married. Marriage is internationally recognised. Cohabitation might be or might not be.

Would you want a relative being contacted as next of kin? That could be to make medical decisions or arrange repatriation.
